On 3 and 4 of May, 2006, more than 2,500 state and federal Mexican police arrived at the small town of San Salvador Atenco, Mexico State, to repress members of a social movement (People´s Front in Defence of Land, FPDT) protesting in support of local flower sellers who had been displaced from their traditional place of work because the government was planning to build there a Wall Mart.

Demo at the Mexican Embassy, London at 1130AM on Tuesday 29th June 2010

EDO Decommissioners' verdict getting closer!

27-06-2010 19:05

Just a short update and some reminders...
The EDO decommissioners' trial is now almost over with only a few closing speeches to go! Although exact time frames are hard to predict, we are currently expecting the jury to retire on Tuesday the 29th. It could then take them anything between a few hours and several days to reach a verdict. If you can, please come along and show the defendants some support!

Newhaven Conservative Club burns down, Sussex

27-06-2010 17:54

Fire at Newhaven Conservative Club, Sussex
Mainstream news are reporting that police are investigating a fire that destroyed Newhaven Conservative Club. No evidence as yet that foul play was involved, but it's good to see the public school fuckers that run our country get some bad news like this.

Wilmott Dixon-Anti-viviesction Demo 30th June

27-06-2010 13:22

Wilmot Dixon are the contractors behind the planned vivesction laboratory at Leicester Uni

Please join us for a protest against animal lab builders Willmott Dixon at their Bristol office at 16 Queens Square 12 noon-2pm Wednesday 30th June. The last demo was quite well attended and we need to keep up the pressure!

Willmott Dixon are the main contractors for the construction of a new animal testing lab at the University of Leicester. Without them the deaths of thousands of animals would be impossible. Leicester Uni have already been exposed for lying to the press in an attempt to hide what is going on in their labs and have been critised by the Home Office. Call Willmott Dixon and tell them to pull out of construction of this hell hole. Contact the killers on: 01462 671852.

Bring anti-vivisection placards and banners.

Badger Demo Cardiff

27-06-2010 13:22

Demo against Thomson Ecology Cardiff
Following the success of the protest outside Thomson Ecology on Friday, we have arranged to pay them another visit. Please come along, invite your friends and share the link to this page. Let's get as many people there for this one as we did on Friday.
Thomson Ecology is the company responsible for surveying for badgers and sett locations prior to the Welsh Assembly badger killing due to start any day now, i.e. these people are finding out where the badgers are and where best to trap them, then passing the information directly onto the badger killers at WAG who will cage trap them and shoot them. Thomson Ecology may as well be pulling the trigger!

Join us outside its new Welsh office in Cardiff to tell them what the public thinks of its involvement in the slaughter of innocent badgers, which are supposed to be a protected species. Bad farming practices and the dairy industry are to blame for the spread of TB in cattle, not badgers! Scientific government research has already proven that culling badgers has no positive effect on the number of TB outbreaks in dairy herds.

The people carrying out the badger survey are more than likely based out of this office, so we will be taking the protest right to the individuals involved.
Please bring banners, placards and lots of noise!

Demo from 12noon until 2pm, Friday 18th June at Thomson Ecology, Williams House, 11-15 Columbus Walk, Cardiff, CF10 4BY. Transport from Bristol, please contact BARC for details: www.bristolanimalrights.org.uk or barc@hotmail.co.uk. Lifts from Bristol.

If you can't make the demo, or even if you can, please contact them to politely tell them what you think of their behaviour. Or organise another protest at one of their offices:

Jan and Gill run up the bills ...

27-06-2010 10:22

That's what friends are for!
Chief Exec's mate mired in financial scandal put on council payroll
Perhaps we could take the time to offer a somewhat belated welcome to Bristol and the city council to GILL DIXON?

Gill first appeared at the city council in 2009 as an "EXTERNAL ADVISOR" acting as the Chief Exec JAN ORMONDROYD'S personal representative on earth, tasked with helping set up the Lib Dems great democratic leap forward - NEIGHBOURHOOD PARNERSHIPS. These strange bodies where various local authority insiders, community busybodies and voluntary sector timeservers get appointed to a committee through a secretive process operated by the council and then get to take spending decisions about your neighbourhood.

This year, no doubt after her stellar advisory performance in 2009, Gill now appears to have a proper job with the council as 'STRATEGIC ADVISOR, NEIGHBOURHOODS' still working on the great Neighbourhood Partnership dream and trousering a salary worth over three times the average wage in Bristol ... Nice work if you can get it!

But surely this can't be the same Gill Dixon who used to be a friend and colleague of Jan Ormondroyd during her days at Bradford Council can it? Because back in 2000 Jan was the Director (Scrutiny and Performance Management) in Bradford while Gill filled in as Best Value and Scrutiny Manager.

And surely this can't be the same Gill Dixon who was appointed Chief Executive of CRAVEN DISTRICT COUNCIL in Skipton, Yorkshire in 2003 at about the time Jan launched her personal career odyssey into the lucrative senior echelons of local authority paper shuffling at Hull?

And surely this can't be the same Gill Dixon who had to hurriedly leave Craven District Council "BY MUTIAL CONSENT" in June 2008 accompanied by a GAGGING ORDER to all Craven's councillors and staff preventing them discussing the circumstances of Gill's departure?

And surely this can't be the same Gill Dixon who "mutually consented" to leave Craven just two weeks after an Audit Commission report on Craven was published that identified ‘MATERIAL MISSTATEMENTS’ in the council's accounts?

And surely this can't be the same Gill Dixon who left Craven in the middle of an independent INVESTIGATION into MANAGEMENT issues there during which Chief Executive Gill was personally interviewed?

And surely this can't be the same Gill Dixon who while Chief Exec at Craven presided over a 25% increase in STAFF, a 50% increase in PR EXPENDITURE, a massive increase in the wage bill and somehow managed to get through no fewer than 3 Directors of Finance in as many years?

Eventually leading the Audit Commission to conclude that financial statements from the council were rapidly deteriorating and below "MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS" ...

And surely this can't be the same Gill Dixon who received a 37% PAY HIKE in the 4 years she ran Craven and was on a performance related salary as she created this mess?

Welcome to Bristol Gill, you'll fit in at Jan's Counts Louse just fine won't you?

THE BRISTOLIAN WILL BE ON THE STREETS SOON ...

A Bangladeshi Muslim shopkeeper was robbed beaten & hospitalised in Whitechapel

27-06-2010 03:31

A Tower Hamlets community activist was badly beaten, robbed and hospitalised on Wednesday following an England football match by a group of drunken thugs who had been drinking in a pub in Whitechapel Road. Afsar Khan Sadek was so badly beaten he was hospitalised and could not speak. He was then mistreated by the police who seemed to find what happened amusing and who were insensitive.

BP Hires CIA General Counsel Stanley Sporkin As Lobbyist

27-06-2010 02:27

Voiceless Victim
Poster's note:
Stanley Sporkin was General Counsel for the CIA 5 years under William Casey during
the Iran Contra years. This is the same CIA which with MI6 responded to Iran's
sovereign right to nationalize oil by overthrowing her elected government in 1953-4 and
installing the torturing Shah of Iran and BP. Next Sporkin, like
several other CIA employees, was moved DIRECTLY into federal
judgeships through Orrin Hatch, Mormon Republican from Utah,
then head of the Judiciary Committee.

26-06-2010 23:11

Following today's successful nonviolent flotilla of cycles that took Alverhurst the March of the Penguins, famous penguin (who, incidentally now refuses to March to any war zone) to Marchwood Military Port today (the UK's biggest fleet).

On armed forces day (wrongly named 'forces') it was important to ensure that there was an nonviolent and unarmed presence and a subverting situation of the warring spectacle.

The Society of the Spectacle plays up war and makes heroes our of killers, and half felt soldiers who go - some not knowing why they go to war. Our arrival made the things change round - suddenly we were at first seen as a threat and then we subverted it by friendliness and we were even kind to the soldiers, police and MOD staff that turned up/talked to us. The level of fear was high - we made fun and play out of the situation not fear and fierceness. Methinks play achieves more than protest and seriousness ever can.

24 Hour Animal Aid Vigil held in Cambridge.

26-06-2010 21:47

An interesting view of Senate House.
Animal Aid, the Cambridge Animal Rights activist group, staged a 24 hour vigil from 5:00pm Friday to 5:00pm Saturday this weekend, both in memory of Pat Griffin, an Animal Rights activist of some 25 years who died this time last year, but also to raise awareness of the fact that plenty of vivisection is happening on our very doorstep in and around Cambridge.

The Foundry closed its doors on the 30th of May, forced out by property developers who plan to build a luxury hotel on the site. On the 8th of June, a group of people squatted the building and transformed the closed space into a social centre.

This group is now under threat of eviction, and has been told that bailiffs will arrive on Monday morning to clear the building for demolition.
We want to defend this space: Not only for its history and role in art and culture not only in order to prevent the hotel from being built, but to experiment with a space free from market forces.

Don't leave Shoreditch to the rich!

Resist its final transformation into a gentrified hub of lifestyle boutiques, luxury hotels, and chic restaurant chains!
We need your help on Monday at 7.30 am.
We need as many people as possible outside the building to defend the space!

Arrive from 8pm Sunday night-

Bring FRIENDS/NOISE/TENTS!

See you in the streets...
