Ireland: Workers occupy Waterford crystal factory

Two hundred workers have occupied the historic Waterford Crystal plant and visitor centre at Kilbarry near Waterford, Ireland. The occupation was launched on Friday in response to the decision by the failed company's receiver to cease manufacturing production, lock out and sack some 480 workers. Local shops have supplied food and drinks.

Trident condemned as barbaric and illegal by leading international judge

At a conference on the legality of Trident nuclear weapons being held in Edinburgh this week, the former vice-president of the International Court of Justice has condemned Trident as "cruel, criminal and barbaric" and stated that non-violent resistance to nuclear weapons is legally justifiable and "every citizen's right". The conference has been jointly organised by the Acronym Institute for Disarmament Diplomacy, Edinburgh Peace and Justice Centre and Trident Ploughshares.

It was legally wound up by a vote of its members in December 2007, after a Standards in Public Office investigation. However, recent actions show that certain former members are still trading and accepting donations under the CST name.
