Dale Farm eviction date leaked!

05-09-2011 14:55

The date for the £ 18 million pound eviction of Dale Farm, a former
scrapyard which is now home to 90 families, has been revealed to be Monday
19th September. The date was leaked to the local newspaper by a council

Dale farm residents are calling on supporters to come to Dale Farm to help them stop the eviction. They are also calling for legal observers and human rights monitors to come down to act as witnesses. Dale Farm is only a half hour by train from London Liverpool Street Station.

The council has threatened to close roads around Dale Farm in advance of the eviction, so it is recommended that people come as many days before the eviction as possible. Also, there is plenty of work needed to prepare in advance. Sleeping space in homes are available, but please bring a tent if you can as we expect bed space to be limited to those in need. People are
welcome at Dale Farm any time. See for details.

Please forward this callout widely, and promote our facebook event through social
networking sites.

We also highly recommend people sign up for text alerts and our email bulletin as we can't trust the council to not send bailiffs in before the given date.

On 19th September Basildon Council and the coalition government who are financing this will face a moral challenge to explain to thousands of people and the world's assembled media why they are choosing to make over 100 children homeless and remove them from their schools. The UN has called on the government to suspend the "immature and unwise" eviction, saying it would "disproportionately affect the lives of the Gypsy and Traveller families, particularly women, children and older people". The eviction has been condemned by a broad coalition of groups, including Amnesty International, trade-unionists, and anti-racism groups.

See you there!

Rail ticket offices to be cut

05-09-2011 13:53

In the midst of mechanisation and cutbacks, more and more people face losing their jobs to a machine. Banks are increasingly cutting enquiry/customer-services-based jobs as they roll out more and more cash points and automated helpdesks. Big business companies and corporations are using new technologies to streamline their operations, reaping profits for directors and shareholders at the expense of frontline staff.

Today the Transport Salaried Staff's Association, a transport workers' union, announced that 675 rail station ticket offices will be closed. These offices will be replaced by ticket machines.

Release political prisoner and activist Andre Dahl Jensen

05-09-2011 12:39

Andre Dahl Jensen, a political activist from Norway is currently being held within a psychiatric ward (UNN Tromso) in Tromso (Norway), on the belief that he suffers delusions, which the doctors have said only to occur when he is in Norway (the idea of regional psychosis being absurd), and on the belief that his political views are caused by mental illness. Many can vouch for his mental stability.

Commute the death sentence of Santhan, Murugan and Perariva

05-09-2011 11:41

Tamilnadu Government order to execute Perarivalan, Santhan and Murugan Two
I am William Nicholas Gomes, a human rights activist and journalist. I have been campaigning for the abolishment of the death penalty for years. I want to start my appeal to you by quoting a comment of eminent jurist, W.J. Basil Fernando, who is the Director for Policy and Programme Development of Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), “I am opposing the execution of the killers of Rajiv Ratna Gandhi, not because they are the killer of 6th Prime Minister of India but it is because no State has a right to take the life of a human being, it being against the Right to Life. I am for abolition of death penalty”.
