Attend cuts budget consultation meetings with councillors
Nottingham City Council's draft Budget for 2012/13 has only just been published. For a summary see http://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=17124. Public consultation meetings are being held as listed below. It is important that as many people as possible go to these meetings to pressurise councillors not to implement this cuts budget. Get yourself there and urge your contacts to attend.

Don't Attack Iran protest at Foreign Office

A two-hour demo was held at lunchtime today (19 January), outside the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Westminster, to oppose any foreign military intervention in Iran, or Syria. Slogans were chanted calling for peaceful measures rather than military intervention, and in support of those who non-violently resist oppressive regimes. Groups involved in the protest included Peace Strike and 'Solidarity with the Iranian People's Struggle' (SWIP).

Peaceful Anti-cuts Demonstration in Liverpool Attacked by Merseyside Police

I arrived at the demonstration just after 4pm. Exchange Street West, to side of town hall, was already closed off by police, presumably to “facilitate” the demo. Councillors had already entered the building and there was around 100 people outside, more milling around than anything. The atmosphere was subdued compared to recent protests in the same location. The council meeting began a little later and the demonstration moved along the side street to be closer to the council chamber windows and to make itself heard to those inside. After some time elapsed with protestors shouting slogans and demanding answers from those within the council chamber, but basically milling around in the barricaded area on the side street, an attempt was made by the police to kettle the demonstration using officers on foot and mounted officers, and the situation immediately became tense.Newcastle City Council Draft Budget

OCCUPY Justice will broadcast live the first of three much-anticipated tribunals tomorrow (Thursday) with the first laying out the case for the prosecution of Tony Blair and associates for crimes against the Iraqi people, namely genocide.
The citizens' inquiry, at the former Old Street Magistrates, in Hackney, will question the legality of the war in Iraq that left hundreds of thousands dead and seek to establish whether there is enough evidence to prosecute those responsible.
