Speaking on BBC radio Tony Blair, owner of many major UK media sources seemed to turn his anger on it's head, "It's their (the media's) fault, they're turning the world upside down, all the focus is on the protests, we don't want to meet like this locked away but would prefer to be in the taverna down the road talking to the people". I know a nice little italian Tony, when can you make it?

Unconfirmed reports have David Blunkett, notorious loony Methodist Minister, masquerading as a blues singer and national politician thereatening to bring new legislation to forbid the wearing of masks on demonstrations, with those found guilty subject to massive fines £1000. (The fines wil of course be passed onto Clare Short to use as part of her support fund for International development in developing countries.

As the summit began the world's leaders professed their determination not to be intimidated but to carry on meeting. Mr Blair insisted that "the issues we are discussing are, in fact, the very issues that some of those people say they are protesting about". But that was before the news arrived of the death, after which the Prime Minister's spokesman adopted a different tone, arguing that it is "always a source of regret if anyone loses their life. We have always defended people's right to legitimate and peaceful protest, but when there is violent protest people can get hurt."

He urged people to remember that it was the leaders, not the protestors, who had been democratically elected.(<25%)


The BBC's Barney Mason says the death has darkened the mood of the summit and has reawoken questions about whether such meetings can go on being held inside a virtual fortress amid serious violence.
