Film: Turtles Can Fly

18-06-2010 14:22

Bahman Ghobadi's award-winning film Turtles Can Fly follows the lives and relationships of a group of Kurdish orphans on the eve of the invasion of Iraq.
The resourceful 13-year old Soran is nick-named Satellite for his ability to mobilise his child gang in the acquisition and installation of the satellite dishes that the villagers hope will relay news of the down-fall of Sadam. He is moved and stirred by the arrival of the beautiful but troubled young Agrin - but her personal history is a barrier between them. Ghobadi wrote the screenplay after living among villagers in this war-torn region - and his film observes their struggle for hope and survival with incredible empathy. The screening is introduced by Kurdish artist Houri Ghamian.

Tickets are £5 (concessions available) – and should be booked on 0117 924 4512 or info@pieriancentre.com. The screening is at 7.30pm on Sunday 27th June, and takes place at the Pierian Centre, 27 Portland Square, St Pauls, Bristol BS2 8SA.
