Manchester Mayday demo - 4th May
24-04-2009 17:04
The G20 protests in the City of London were, in many ways, a massively mediatized spectacle. The real challenge is to show our opposition to the status quo at the local level of our everyday lives. This is why we are inviting you to join us on the Manchester Mayday demonstration, on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May.Assemble 12noon @ All Saints Park to march to Castlefields.
Thessaloniki (15/4): Communiqué of attack against British college in solidarity
24-04-2009 15:47
First, a short introduction. Attacks of this type (so called “camping-gas bomb” attacks, or simply “gazakia” in Greek, or in like in this case, the smashing of window shops etc) have been taking place in Greece’s major cities for a while. Usual targets include banks, multinational corporations, embassies and the like. In most cases the attacks (which only cause material damage) are followed by a communiqué explaining the reasoning behind them: communiqués of this sort are most often published on indymedia or on blogs likes this one - while they are occasionally also sent to mainstream media outlets.During the French riots of 2005, approximately 1,000 cars were burnt every night. A largely unknown fact, however, is that approximately 100 cars are burnt across the country every single night: in that sense, the French revolt didn’t start in 2005 and, most certainly, didn’t end then either. Similarly, attacks of the type described above preceded the December revolt and have, by all measuring standards, been on the increase since. What used to be attacks in the major urban centres of the country only (Athens, Thessaloniki), have now spread to somewhere between 9 and 15 cities across Greece. The type of these attacks, their targets and their communiqués vary, of course. What follows is the communiqué of the attack against a British educational institute in Thessaloniki on 15/4.
