The Tamil people in Sri Lanka continue to suffer horrendous casualties at the hands of the Sri Lankan military with UN estimates now claiming that almost 6, 500 people are now dead. The figure is expected to be revised upwards as independent observers are not present to verify the figure.

As the claim is made, the Indian government place further pressure on the Sri Lankans to end the proscriptive operation.

The operation was brought into play in February 2009 year by the British ambassador to the UN, Sir John Sawyers.
