Imperialism, 'Anti-Imperialism', and the Continuing Relevance of Rosa Luxemburg

22-08-2007 23:14

The liquidity crisis currently wiping billions off global stock markets is just the tip of a very big iceberg. Beneath the credit crunch and incipient insolvency crisis lie the economic and political crisis of the USA’s global reign, claims Loren Goldner. But will this mean global depression, wars and intensified authoritarianism, or a renewed opportunity for communism? Goldner returns to the theories of Marx and Luxemburg to examine today's financial and military imperialism, and its left wing ‘anti-imperialist’ mirror

British Ambassador promises: "We will not deport Pegah Emambakhsh"

22-08-2007 16:21

Unfortunately the case records would leave us to doubt it. The
impression we get is that it is an attempt to demonstrate the absurdity
of the situation, that is, that Pegah will not endure any form of persecution
in Ahmadinejad’s Iran and the ruthless Islamic courts!

War Against Iran: Hawks Winning the Argument?

22-08-2007 15:44

"It could just stop exporting oil itself. Pulling only Iran’s three and a half million barrels per day off the market, in its present state, would send oil prices shooting up into the stratosphere. Or it could get tough and close down all oil-tanker traffic that comes within range of those missiles — which would mean little or no oil from Iraq, Saudi Arabia or the smaller Gulf states either. That would mean global oil rationing, industrial shutdowns, and the end of the present economic era."

Maybe we should share this around? I wonder if these outcomes are what Cheney and his Neocon pals really want? Great for the price of "their" oil. Good cover for crimes of treason.

Political Policing outside Harmondsworth Detention Centre.

22-08-2007 14:17

Police blocking the protest
A group of around 30 from the Climate Camp, including many from No Borders, made their way (with an un-necessary police escort) to Harmondsworth Immigration Detention Centre at midday on Tuesday, only to be forcibly penned by police into a car park invisible to the road. The action was to highlight the link between detention centres and climate change, and to show solidarity to those inside, detained for committing no crime.
