On Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th of August, an autonomous group of activists performed The Flying Checkpoint street theatre project at the Edinburgh Festival in the Mound Precinct off Princes Street. The Flying Checkpoint is a re-enactment of waiting in line at the Huwarra Checkpoint outside Nablus in the West Bank of occupied Palestine.

There are currently hundreds of permanent, temporary and flying checkpoints, road blocks and earth mounds located around the West Bank, all serving as methods of control and restriction to the freedom of movement of Palestinians every single day.

Created as an alternative means of engaging the community, the Flying Checkpoint combines street theatre and audience participation to bring viewers an insight into the tedious, oppressive and often brutal reality of life under occupation.
Each character within the theatre represents a real person who has died whilst waiting to get through a checkpoint.

Despite being ruled as illegal under international law by the International Court of Justice in July 2004 and in violation of over 65 different UN resolutions, the occupation of Palestine continues to be supported by the international community, as does the expansion of illegal israeli settlements within the West Bank and the construction of the Aparthied Wall through and around it.

From boycotting israeli products to working out in Palestine or campaigning here in the UK, there are many ways you can stand in solidarity with the Palestinians.
