Open Letter to a Chancellor (U$A)

20-11-2011 16:57

pig
Yo I'm reposting this great letter to a Chancellor at an American university from someone on her staff (or how much longer is an open question I suppose).
For all it's problems, at least the Occupy is bringing out the contradictions inherent in repression of peaceful protest .. and I guess that's good.

In the early evening, one of the Occupy Bristol sites was attacked by a small group of thugs. Speculation is this was an EDL attack.

In the early evening, one of the Occupy Bristol sites was attacked by a small group of thugs. Speculation is this was an EDL attack:

occupybristol write: Tonight at around 7pm Bristol’s second Occupation camp was trashed and I was threatened to have my face bit off, by a male whom I presume was a member of Bristol’s EDL firm. I was handed a note by a middle aged woman reading “people of Bristol eviction notice get off our green”. It was obvious from early on who they were so I attempted to engage with them. Nevertheless, I was told they have launched a campaign against Occupy Bristol, this wasn’t news to me as its been acknowledged by us for several weeks. Several Occupations around the country have had repeated problems with EDL members. However, ironically the harder the EDL try to defeat the Occupy Movement, the stronger we grow in numbers, power and support.

Protest at Nuclear New Build conference

19-11-2011 20:55

Six members and supporters of Kick Nuclear gathered outside the Nuclear New Build Forum, taking place at 1 Whitehall Place, Westminster early on Thursday morning (17 November). They called on the nuclear industry bigwigs attending the conference to abandon their plans to build new nuclear power stations and instead concentrate on safer and more sustainable alternatives instead, such as renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The event notice read:

No More Fukushimas! No More Chernobyls! No More Nuclear Greenwash! Green Solutions Now!

Join Kick Nuclear as we tell nuclear cheerleaders EDF - found guilty this week by a French court of spying on Greenpeace - and all their nuclear industry and pro-nuclear government cronies to EDF-off. We don't want their radiation and greenwash spewing out all over these isles, and their tonnes of radioactive waste and defunct reactors left behind for future generations to have to deal with.

French nuclear energy giant EDF Energy is leading the charge of the nuclear white elephants in the UK, with its plans for new nukiller reactors at five sites in England, starting with Hinkley Point in Somerset. We have to stop them.

Better active today than radioactive tomorrow!

tea, cake and dubstep, 197 mare st resistance

19-11-2011 18:55

another successful resistance in hackney

'Naugh-tea-ness' the much loved squatted tea shop in hackney, has been saved from a fate worse than death [more posh flats], this comes only two weeks after the successful resistance of two other property in the local area. Resistance and local support is running high in the squatting community.

Early Friday morning a crowd of around 40 turned up to defend the tea shop, as the bailiffs watched helpless from across the street. Eventually the owner Mr Burns [''excellent''] turned up in his brand new sports car, declaring how unfair it all was, ''But I have a possession order'' he cried. But his protestations fell on deaf ears. After arguing for around an hour with a local resident, he left in a huff.

The doors where flung open and the tea trolley rolled out, every one had cake and tea, whilst listening to some dupstep.

The perfect Friday morning

George Bush & Tony Blair's trial: Sparks fly at Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal

19-11-2011 14:11

George Bush and Tony Blair attend the NATO summit in Istanbul, 28 June 2004
Today, seven judges of the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal sat to hear formal charges against former President of the United States George W. Bush and former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair for Crimes Against the Peace.

But before the actual proceedings could get underway, Defense Counsel Team Leader Jason Kay Kit Leon charged one of the Judges with bias. Prosecutors characterized the allegation of bias and request for recusal as a "surprise" attack for which the Court had not had the opportunity to prepare.
