MULTITUDE: MONSTER OR MASTER

Often we suspect there is something ‘rotten’ in our global order and only an urgent adjustment can save us from calamity. But we are unable to articulate or convert our suspicions into logical concepts expressed in the context of past and current political and economic evolutions.

EDO MBM threatens IMC UK: "You can't call us warmongers"

06-02-2005 23:39

On Friday morning the following letter was sent by email to IMC UK's contact address, threatening libel action over the suggestion that EDO:

(a) are warmongerers;
(b) are complicit in the deaths of innocent people; and
(c) make things that kill children.

Since their business is the manufacture of weapons (see  http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/02/304814.html), these would all seem to be at the very least fair comment, and arguably simple fact.

(Text below, original M$ Word file attached.)

The subject of the complaint would appear to be the following pages:

 http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/01/303499.html
 http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/01/304182.html
 http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2005/01/304521.html

and posibly others, which report on the ongoing campaign against this company.

Definite shadows of McLibel and GANDALF here...

Amazing, how Gloria Arroyo can smile and at the same breadth strangle and starve

06-02-2005 09:21

In all of this, one thing is reaffirmed: a government cannot be subservient to foreign corporate interests without, at the same time, strangling and starving the Filipino people. And if there is no solution to this crisis that isn’t within the unwritten rule of this regime’s obedience to foreign capital, then it is hard to know what is— without actually having to dismantle it.

WE NEED EVERYONE MONDAY!

06-02-2005 03:21

This is too important to have gone off the bottom of the page. Come to the DEMONSTRATION ON MONDAY 7 FEBRUARY 2-8pm IN PARLIAMENT SQUARE -
see www.parliament-square.org.uk.
Stop the Serious Organised Crime and Police Bill from going
The Serious Organised Crime and Police Bill is going to be debated in Parliament next Monday 7th January from 2.30pm.

THIS LEGISLATION WILL REMOVE BRIAN HAW'S PEACE PROTEST FROM PARLIAMENT SQUARE AND COULD STOP ALL PROTEST WITHIN 1KM OF PARLIAMENT. IT IS A SEVERE CONTRAVENTION OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS ACT AND A FUNDAMENTAL ATTACK ON DEMOCRACTIC PRINCIPLES.

DEMONSTRATION ON MONDAY 7 FEBRUARY 2-8pm IN PARLIAMENT SQUARE -
see www.parliament-square.org.uk.

At this stage MPs can make amendments and the Bill will probably be voted through to its next stage in the House of Lords.

Iraqi Oil Trade Unionist Speaks Tuesday 8th

06-02-2005 01:44

Iraq Occupation Focus presents...

Building trade unions in Occupied Iraq
With Hassan Juma'a from the Basra Oil Union

7pm, Tuesday 8th February,
Room 3B, University of London Union, Malet Street, London WC1.

Hassan Juma'a is the General Secretary of the Southern Oil Company Union and President of the General Union of Oil Sector Workers in Basra, the federation to which the former is affiliated. Both were created after the invasion and are politically independent, both of the regime and of political parties in Iraq. SOCU members waged a successful stuggle to raise the level of the wage imposed on them by the occupation authorities. They are currently engaged in a fight against oil privatisation and stopped oil production in August in protest against the seige of Najaf. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from a trade unionist who has experienced the daily reality of the occupation.

Hassan is in Britain as a guest of Iraq Occupation Focus. The normal IOF organising meeting will take place immediately after Hassan has spoken and questions have been taken. Please feel free to leave after this, or to stay and help us organise against the increasingly brutal occupation of Iraq.

For more information of the Southern Oil Company Union, please visit our >>website<<

Hassan Juma'a will be in Britain until the 19th February. He will be meeting trade unionists and anti-war activists. His speaking engagements include the annual conferences of Labour Against the War and the Stop the War Coalition, as well as a TUC Iraq Solidarity Conference. For more information, please email  iraqfocus@riseup.net

Zengo - Reasons for Fear ( HUNGARY)

And still: all this is story not merely about their future.
