On the the last day of June 2004, Rushmoor Borough Council planning committee met and dealt the final death blow to Farnborough town centre. We were told a superstore is in the 'public interest' and can override human rights and thus it was okay to kick people out of their homes to make way for a car park for the superstore, that a superstore would revitalise a dying town centre.No, We Shouldn't Bomb Darfur Either.

(Sorry, 'Indymedia', mastering your technology is as easy as quantum physics!). - Before 2 p.m., 30th June, a small group had gathered outside Solihull Magistrates Court. With banners, one drum & buoyant mood. Some 8 (one lady defender absent, for personal reasons) of them were facing charges under the Public Order Act. Previous clothing had included army jackets & helmets. Today, mostly casualising, with a few sloganised T-shirts.

One choice comment came from employee who suggested that people from Manchester were not local and therefore had no right to protest there despite his far from local depot supplying to shops as far away as Leeds and Lancaster.

On July 1st 2004, London Rising Tide (LRT) dropped in on 'Mummy - the inside story' at the British Museum, billed as 'a BP Special Exhibition'. We unfurled a banner reading 'Oil Fuels Climate Chaos' in the main covered area, suggesting to the visiting throngs that BP is profiting from oil wars and climate change while diverting the public gaze away from these dark truths with a widespread programme of cultural sponsorship. (The National Portrait Gallery, Royal Opera House and National Gallery are the most prominent current examples.)More action needed
