America losing its innocence for the umpteenth time

02-07-2003 12:21

Washington Post columnist Ignatius compares US involvement in Iraq to Barbara Tuchman's book "March of Folly". He assumes America is about to lose its innocence. (I thought it lost its innocence a rather long time ago, but perhaps that is just me.)

RAILWAY U CALLS POODLE CABINET WAR CRIMINALS AND STOPS FINANCING 'NEW LABOUR'

02-07-2003 09:52

TONY Blair's relationship with the unions sunk to a new low yesterday as the RMT slashed financial support for the Labour Party. The country's biggest rail union said it would now donate just £12,000 a year, compared with £150,000 in 2001, and seek closer ties with other political parties. General Secretary Bob Crow said branches should be allowed to support other parties because New Labour had "betrayed" its grass roots. Mr Crow also accused the Cabinet of being "war criminals" over the "illegal" war with Iraq and said he expected his union to support George Galloway if the Labour MP was expelled.

10,000 nuclear triggers?

01-07-2003 21:17

I am not an activist... I am an average American with access to a computer. I am so out raged about the lack of attention the proposed nuclear trigger plant is getting, I emailed hundreds of copies of the following letter. I am hoping it will touch someone who will join me in attempting to raise the awareness of this grave and disturbing issue.

Could mid-east wmd's REALLY be a threat to Britain ?

01-07-2003 20:45

I take issue with a recent call from an Orthodox Jewish group in the UK for the dismantling of Israel. I suggest how the roadmap could work. But I also map out a not-entirely-impossible sequence of events which, the roadmap having failed, might leave Britain facing threat from the nuclear arsenal of an Israel fallen into the hands of its Armageddon-seeking extremists, with their backing from the US christian right. Although an extreme scenario, I fear this is not altogether paranoia. All religious fanaticism can be very dangerous, jewish and christian included.

FEAR AND LOATHING OF AMERIKA’S ORGANIZED CRIME

01-07-2003 20:18

The blacklisted whispered to a dead mike off camera quasi moral debate of the Sean Penns, Richard Gears and Susan Sarandons, mildly soul searching and politely critical of their nation’s present sponsoring of pandemonium is as wanting as it ever was. They seem to try to do their bit but the bit just doesn’t cut it as the rest of the Hollywood puss machine pumps out its standard line of crass Gestapo snuff movies glorifying jarheads on steroids with their drug addled gnat brains invading and destroying other people’s countries. Be it a shoot’em up black hawk downer rescuing private Ryan’s girlfriend Jessica’s lunch, or just a prayer pow wow seance with Bush and what’s her name in a graveyard in the heartland of the homeland it just gets kitschier all the time.
