Mass arrests for thought crime

A mass police raid in the early hours of yesterday morning resulted in the arrests of 114 individuals in the grounds of a Sneinton school. Those arrested have been released on bail following questioning related to “suspicion of conspiracy to commit trespass and aggravated criminal damage”. The police are saying that those arrested were “planning a period of prolonged disruption to the safe running of Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station”. The Nottingham Evening Post, in it’s usual measured and objective style, is saying that there was a “plot to attack a power station”.

Protest against forcible deportations to Iraqi Kurdistan – London, 16th April

Anti-deportation campaigners are staging a demonstration on Thursday outside the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government office in London to highlight its complicity in the forcible mass deportations of Iraqi-Kurdish refugees. The protest, called by the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees (IFIR) and supported by many groups including London No Borders, the National Coalition of Anti-Deportation Campaigns, Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! and the SOAS Detainee Support Group, will coincide with an international demonstration called by IFIR outside the UN offices in Geneva. No Borders South Wales is also holding a solidarity demonstration at the UK Border Agency office in Cardiff.

Jungle Zoo and Great British Circus get Easter protests; zoo manager arrested

Protests hit the Jungle Zoo in Cleethorpes and the Great British Circus in Grimsby on Sunday 12 April. The Jungle Zoo is about the worst kind of dump that passes legal muster, while the Great British Circus makes its wild animals perform unnatural tricks for the gawping public. Campaigns are active against both. A trail of protests is following the Great British Circus around on tour, and the Jungle Zoo's manager was arrested following an incident during the protest that was caught on video.
