On Thursday, January 29th, I sent President Obama this message:
"Mr. President: The Bush Administration lied to the people in pursuit of war. As a result, at least one million Iraqis and thousands of U.S. soldiers are dead. Thousands more are maimed. The stature of the U.S. is severely damaged. The U.S. Constitution is in shreds after signing statements, wiretaps, and torture. Your obligation is to investigate and bring to justice those who violated U.S. and international law, such as the torture treaty. Failure to do so makes you complicit in their crimes."

On Thursday 29th January 2009, around 25 people braved the freezing cold conditions to hold a picket for about 2 hours outside the UK Border Agency at 31-33 Newport Road, Cardiff. These offices are where decisions are made about who gets detained, deported or in rarer cases granted leave to remain. ID cards are issued here for non-EU students and spouses and immigration 'snatch squads' operate from this address. This is also the local reporting office, where asylum applicants must 'sign on' as part of the conditions of their continued residence in the UK and then sometimes are detained prior to deportation. It is the face of Britain's racist immigration policies right here on our doorstep.

Colin Roach, aged 21 years, died in January 1983 after receiving a fatal gunshot wound in 1983 while in the custody of Stoke Newington police station, London. He is alleged by the police to have shot himself in the mouth. Authorities alleged that he had committed suicide after entering the Stoke Newington Police Station. Many believed that there was reason to doubt this story and instead argued that Roach was murdered by police.

This is a call for all Peace campaigners from all faiths, and no faith, to gather on the first Sunday of every month outside Westminster Cathedral, to carry a petition and various banners through to Westminster Abbey, through Parliament Square, to Downing street (where the petition is handed in) and then on to the Edith Cavell Memorial.

For the international day of action activists targeted Bayer Cropsciences headoffice in Stockholm, Sweden. About fiftheen activists gathered in front of the main gate to the compound where Bayer is situated. Obviously, the company already knew of our plans and two security guys stood guard in front of the gate. They had to redirect some of the traffic to another lane to get them through the crowd of angry protesters and as workers drove away several gave us the thumbs up.
