As of December 6th, the three prisoners being held for the toppling of the statue of Columbus in Plaza Venezuela in Caracas were released from prison, but one of them, the most vocal of the group, Freddy Tabarquino, is still set to stand trial inliberty. Children of failed asylum seekers living in Manchester/Leeds/Bradford/North London have been earmarked to be the guinea pigs for the Home Offices latest experiment in 'degrading and inhumane treatment' of refugees.From Wednesday 1st December, section.9 of the Asylum and Immigration act 2004 will be piloted in Manchester, as well as in Leeds/Bradford and North London. It is expected that 150 families will be included in the pilot. The Home Office feels these areas are suitable for a pilot exercise because:
- they have sufficient resources to run an exercise
- there are a large numbers of families in these areas
- there are no other pilots concerning other sections of the legislation taking place in these areas.

There still seems to be a lot of confusion on this matter, not helped (purposely?) by Government statements, so let me try and clarify what we appear to know.The Government's responses to questions re: Indymedia Server Seizure, specifically that "no UK law enforcement agencies were involved" (20 Oct) and that "the Home Office received no prior notification" (8 Nov) would seem to rule out the use of the US-UK MLAT.
