Mitie shame (Ox-Fly) - Campsfield changes hands

Campsfield "House", the migration prison near Kidlington (see Ox-Fly 1), is changing management. Mitie (pronounced "mighty" for the sake of pomposity) won the £27m contract[1] and will have a 5 year term[2].

Winning the argument or winning the fight? (Ox-Fly)

There has been a lot of talk in the anti-cuts movement about the importance of 'winning the argument'. This strategy holds that the best way to go about fighting attacks on wages, living conditions and services is to point out the flaws in the pro-cuts arguments and suggest alternative policies which would avoid the need for cuts.

Workshop: Staying safe and effective on demonstrations

As the frequency of Anti-Cuts Actions Increases, its important for those will experience of police tactics aimed at disabling and demoralising demonstrators is shared. With the demo on the 19th Feb just round the corner, just such a skill share is happening on Monday.

A workshop and discussion on "how to stay safe and effective on demos" including your legal rights, how to prevent police disruption, supporting anyone arrested and generally keeping yourself and your friends safe will be taking place on monday the 14th at 6:30pm!

Anyone who is coming to the Bristol Anti Cuts demonstration on 19th of february is welcome and encouraged to attend. There shall be cake!

The venue is the Smiling Chair Libary, 40 Stokes croft, BS1 3QD.

Since yesterday, and actually earlier, middle class activists have been urging Egyptians to suspend the protests and return to work, in the name of patriotism, singing some of the most ridiculous lullabies about “let’s build new Egypt,” “Let’s work harder than even before,” etc… In case you didn’t know, actually Egyptians are among the hardest working people in the globe already.

Scottish Coal threatens Council with job cuts – but will they fall for it?

Last week Scottish Coal bosses sprung the news of up to 200 job cuts on their employees, calling a mass meeting of workers at the Broken Cross site in South Lanarkshire. That’s a fifth of their entire workforce in Scotland. Up to 50 employees could lose their jobs in the Douglas Valley with 30 going at Glentaggart as the mine comes to a close. Where the others are to go isn’t clear.
