In light of ongoing austerity measures, due only to get worse, the Cut the Crap Collective introduces a radical discussion space, unashamedly founded on anarchist principles - interested in collective action that works for all. It welcomes anyone who wants to communicate, learn and teach. Hosting workshops, film screenings, discussions and serving hot, tasty meals with the aim of creating a space where people can get together to openly talk and organise for a better future!

Saturday 8th December was the start of a week of action against Workfare, in Birmingham protesters from Boycott Workfare, Birmingham Against the Cuts, Disabled People Against the Cuts, Anonymous Birmingham and Birmingham Food not Bombs gathered outside Poundland, a local company using Workfare. Meeting up at Starbucks on South Parade, Just south of the Market Square, Nottingham
People gathered, handed out leaflets and the Notts uncut banner displayed. The issue being further aired by the media these last few weeks, was about the lack of tax being collected by the large corporations ..... set against the cuts in services applied to so many of the poorest in society.Some of the potential customers were detered from buying there but it has to be said that the coffee shop was full all the time that protesters were there.
Those protesting on these issues were joined by none other than Cllr John Collins, the leader of the Labour Group on Nottingham City Council

Refuge from the cuts - target Starbucks!
"It’s time for the government to wake up and smell the coffee. Women have had enough of being attacked by a cabinet of millionaires. But there is a refuge from the cuts. Join us on Saturday 8th December to transform the tax dodger Starbucks into services women depend on, such as refuges and crèches. Check the actions page to find an action near you. On 5th December the Chancellor, George Osborne, will deliver his autumn statement, with even further spending cuts expected to be announced. Women are bearing the brunt of the cuts- particularly low paid women and their families. The government’s savage austerity plans are pushing the cause of women’s equality back decades as benefits, healthcare, Sure Start centres, childcare, rape and domestic abuse services are cut and female unemployment soars.
If the government took strong action to stop tax dodging by companies like Starbucks- who haven’t paid any income tax for the last three years- we could easily afford to prevent the £5.6m being cut from violence against women services, the 25% cut to funding for Sure Start centres and the further £10 billion benefit cuts.
Domestic violence increases at Christmas and during times of economic hardship. 230 women are turned away from refuges every day as a result of the government’s cuts to women’s services. Enough is enough.
Is your local rape crisis centre being closed? Then why not turn your local Starbucks into a refuge? Bring your kids, because 50% of people living in refuges are children. Housing benefit cut? Bring your sleeping bags. Are you working less hours because subsidised childcare is a thing of the past? You could set up a Starbucks crèche.

Around 40 local supporters of the Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty targetted Leith Kirkgate shops as part of national week of action against government work experience schemes.
Critics say the work experience schemes are unfair because people claiming some benefits who take part in the workplacements - which can be up to six months long - must work for free with no guarantee that there will be a job at the end of it.

Broxtowe Save Our NHS target local MP Anna Soubry

This morning in Beeston the Broxtowe Save Our NHS campaign delivered its Christmas spectacular. A giant Christmas card was brought into Beeston, on which people were able to send their messages of seasonal goodwill to their MP, Anna Soubry. These messages were of course somewhat infused with the feelings people have about the NHS, and the damage being inflicted on it now by Soubry and her Tory and Lib-Dem friends.
Don’t forget that the Health and Social Care Act is now beginning to tear strips off the NHS - the juicy profitable strips that is, that the Tories' business friends can make a killing out of. Soubry is junior health minister, and this is the Act that was described as “an embarrassment to democracy” by nearly 250 leading doctors in a letter to a national newspaper. Nurses, Occupational Therapists, patient's groups, and pretty much everyone else are equally opposed.
Belting out the Christmas cheer, the Clarion Choir sang a number of carols specially adapted to the theme of defending the NHS. The busy town centre was filled with the sound of political choristry. Free tea, coffee and mince pies were on hand to warm everyone up, though the sun made a brave effort too. In between the choir’s sessions, a small sound system played Christmas songs from reggae, punk, and all kinds of other musical traditions.
The Christmas card soon filled up, and plenty of people took postcards for their friends and neighbours. Anna Soubry will certainly have a big Christmas post bag.
The Health and Social Care Act could prove fatal to the NHS as we know it. But don’t forget it could also have the potential to unite and mobilise large sections of the general public, service users, as well as the Trade Unions, with the potential to culminate in a “poll tax moment” for the government.
