Governors Held to Account Over Job Cuts at LMU

Picket outside the International Student House
Students and staff of the London Metropolitan University lobbied the Chair of LMU’s Board of Governors, to protest against job cuts on Thursday 2nd July. London Met Board of Governors approved the plan to make 550 redundancies last month, refusing to consider union proposals to ease the damage done to the staff at London Met.

The protest was aimed at Peter Anwyl, Director of International Student House (ISH), who has consistently refused to meet or talk to the unions. A delegation from both UCU and UNISON went to present a letter protesting at the cuts in staff at LMU.

On Thursday 2nd July activists from Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! gathered outside the Discovery Museum in Newcastle after receiving a VERY last minute tip-off that Gordon Brown was holding an 'invite only' question and answer session inside. Three of the protestors were later arrested and released without charge.

During a hearing at the State Court in Dresden, 31-year-old Marwa was stabbed 18 times in front of her 3-year-old sun by 31-year-old Alex. Ten months before, the man had hurled racist insults at the women at a playground, which resulted in a fine 3 months later.

Stop Camden Bio Hazard and Animal Testing Lab Coalition meeting this Sunday

There are plans to build a high level virus containment facility and animal testing lab in Camden, alongside St Pancras International, behind the British Library. The lab could be a level 3 facility which means that it could contain deadly pathogens such as anthrax and bird flu.
