Alternatively we can continue fighting the presence of multinationals on our streets (Sainsbury's having been given the go ahead a few centimeters up the road) By getting involved with local alternatives - community meals, guerrilla gardening and local food.
A fruit and Veg stall - co-op has been set up in the Full Moon Bike Basket Market, running on sundays, this hopes to grow into a real alternative.

This is a fundraiser for 18 people accused of maliciously obstructing a railway at Ffos-y-Fran open-cast coal mine near Merthyr Tydfil in April. 7 people from Bristol and Bath chained themselves to a railway to prevent a train from delivering coal from the mine to Aberthaw Power Station, the dirtiest power station in Wales.

Women against fascism will be opposing the EDL on 20th June 2010 in Tower Hamlets. The racist thugs & football hooligans of the [EDL] are trying to provoke young Muslim men into a violent response by marching on East London Mosque in Whitechapel and threatening to march on Brick Lane. Women will oppose the EDL on June 20th as we are against violence and want peace for Tower Hamlets.Palestine Today 06 09 2010

Stopping Trump vandalism
09-06-2010 13:22
A couple of things reported in the media but may benefit from some wider publicity:
Tripping up Trump have acqired a peace of land that Trump is after. It's like the LandPlot scheme in the area of the Third Heathrow runway. Sign up for it here: http://www.trippinguptrump.com/enter-the-bunker
Also, totally unrelated, but some anonimus land restoration has been carried out in April according to newspaper reports: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/scotland/article7110945.ece and http://www.scotsman.com/news/Sabotage-vandals-trash-Donald-Trump.6260809... It appears fences were removed and grass pulled up that was supposd to stablize the dunes to stop sand blowing on to the golfcourse. And diggers sabotaged. There were also reports of fences being removed earlier in January.
Also some discracefully heavy security during Trump visit! http://www.thescottishfarmer.co.uk/news/horse-rider-in-grampian-police-i...

The most potent propaganda relies on language loaded with hidden implications. In a recent speech, journalist Robert Fisk noted:“When we westerners find that ‘our’ enemies - al-Qaeda, for example, or the Taliban - have set off more bombs and staged more attacks than usual, we call it ‘a spike in violence’. Ah yes, a ‘spike’!
“A ‘spike’ in violence, ladies and gentlemen is a word first used, according to my files, by a brigadier general in the Baghdad Green Zone in 2004. Yet now we use that phrase, we extemporise on it, we relay it on the air as our phrase.”

Bristol No Borders at the Cube plus other events

Bristol No Borders@ The Cube Cinema (Part of Refugee Week 14th-20th June)Wednesday 16th June 8pm
As part one of a two night special introduced by Bristol No Borders during Refugee Week (14th - 20th June) we present a number of short films portraying local and global resistance to the international border regime(s). These will include a film called “Passengers” made by local film maker-activist Lucie Jade in Calais. This serves as excellent prelude to tomorrow nights screening of “Welcome”. Lucie will be among panel of activists to answer your questions and facilitate discussion after the films.
Thursday 17th 8pm
Following on from its huge success at the French box office Bristol No Borders and Calais Migrant Solidarity (Bristol) bring Welcome (2009) to the cube. The film will be followed by a short update on the current situation in Calais, a humanitarian crisis wildly distorted by the British media.
Calais Migrant Solidarity (Bristol) is a group involved in direct
solidarity in Calais with migrants.
'A gripping French contribution to the cycle of movies about exile and refugees, this centres on the friendship between a swimming instructor at the Calais municipal baths (the excellent Vincent Lindon) and a
17-year-old Iraqi Kurd bent on swimming the channel to be reunited with his girlfriend in London. The film's chief revelation is the way French officialdom treats both the illegal immigrants and French citizens who assist them. They effectively bring back the terrible, corrosive spirit of the Occupation.' Philip French, 'The Observer'.
CLIMATE MIGRANTS: FEEDING BACK FROM THE WORLD PEOPLE'S CONFERENCE ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Wednesday 23rd June 7.00pm St Pauls Learning Centre, 94 Grosvenor Rd. All Welcome. Free/donation
Climate Change is not just a scientific, environmental problem, but is having huge impacts on people and communities around the world. Famine, floods, droughts or extreme weather events are forcing many thousands of people to leave their homes and this is set to increase. There is currently no legal protection for these people and instead we are seeing repressive migration policies, increasing border controls and restrictions on free movement.
