Jeremy Scahill: The Expansion of the War Zone

26-10-2013 11:43

Germany plays a central role in US military operations since 9/11 and is a major enabler of the US assassination program, says Jeremy Scahill. Many of the operations of the Joint Special Operation Command, the covert US elite forces, are being planned at the US Africa Command “AFRICOM” in Stuttgart/Germany. More than 70 countries in the world have access to weaponized drone technology. Germany is also trying to acquire them. It is only a matter of time that they will be used. Furthermore the US military has donated its equipment to police agencies.

INEOS announce Grangemouth Petrochemical Plant to close/Workers continue fight

23-10-2013 15:33

This morning in a shock annoucement INEOS Refining - owner of Grangemouth Oil Refinery & Petrochemical Plant - announced that the petrochemical plant at Grangemouth was to close, with 800 people to be made redundant. It comes after Unite members voted for strike-action on 27th September, with 90% voting in favour of a strike with an 86% turnout, after INEOS issued workers with a ‘sign or be sacked’ ultimatum to slash jobs, pay and pensions with a deadline by 6pm Monday 21 October. This further escalation of closure shows the brute careless abandon of INEOS controlled by billionaire hedge fund owner, Jim Ratcliffe, that compromises the entire oil industry and petrol supplies throughout the UK particularly Scotland, and the shameless opportunism of a company resorting to the worst example of industrial vandalism in living memory to get their own way, who have refused union demands to allow the company accounts to be reviewed by an independent assessor of the union's choosing.

There has been lots happening.... Here's an update for October and November...
We've moved venue to St Christopher's Church Hall on Trent Road in Sneinton. We have landed right in the middle of Sneinton so please pop by for some delicious food!

During the two week City half-term holiday we are open as a LUNCH CLUB from midday to 1.30pm.

The dates are Tuesday 22nd to Friday 25th and Tuesday 29th to Friday 1st November. So for the half-term weeks we offer a delicious, homemade, tasty lunch for whatever you have in your pocket or purse!

After the half-term we return to our usual teatime service of 4.00 to 5.30pm.
This month our colleague Jason is away, so Beccy's Global Kitchen is taking over the kitchen with a guest spot every Thursday and Friday... Look out for her amazing food! Marsha wields the mega-pan every Tuesday and Wednesday...
There is a Secret Kitchen Social Eating Evening coming up on the 8th of November... Watch out for a special invite soon...
Did you know...

Every Wednesday we donate food to The Greenway Centre to support their youth activities by providing a tasty, hot meal...

Every fortnight we donate some supplies to St Ann's Food Bank...

Every week after half-term we welcome a school visit to the cafe so local children can join in the fun and help with preparing and serving out our food...

'Affordable food, eaten socially...
The Secret Kitchen Cafe...'

Did you know most of our food comes from FareShare Leicester? We use supermarket surplus to create fantastic food that we can offer for a donation. We are a social eating project with the aim of promoting sharing food as a way of bringing people together, creating family-friendly hang outs, looking after our food resources, stopping food being wasted and thrown away and helping those on limited incomes to access great food at affordable prices.

We aren't just about food poverty- ANYONE can pop by for a great meal. We aren't a soup kitchen; we cater for people who can pay and those that can't pay so much. We are all about SOCIAL EATING as a way of positively changing how we eat, how we get together, education, information and social sharing.
