It comes as no surprise-Gaza has always been Israel's "testing ground" - from nerve agents used in Khan Younis in 2003 to Sonic Boom "phantom air raids". Now, there is talk of cluster bombs, depleted uranium, and white phosphorus. And these are only the ones people can identify.

Despite the cold, the crowd still had the energy to then march on the Israeli embassy a further 3 miles away despite frequent police obstruction over the whole route.

Bomb the hospitals & charge the casualties: Healthcare Israeli Style

04-01-2009 16:43

Under the Geneva Conventions it is clearly a crime to target medical infrastructure and an occupying force has an obligation to provide medical treatment for civilians.

But just as we saw in Lebanon, Israel has no qualms about targeting medics and hospitals, but now wee see a new sick twist: holding the wounded to ransom.

I expected an ambulance, but a donkey cart carried the injured'

04-01-2009 12:00

Ewa Jasiewicz is a journalist and activist. She is currently the project co-ordinator for the Free Gaza Movement, and one of the only international journalists on the ground in Gaza. Here is her account of a week spent trying to document the attacks.

Sunday
The shock of the first day of attacks, launched within minutes of one another, and killing over 230 people in 24 hours, has had no chance to sink in. Me and my friend Mohammad travelled up to Beit Lahiya today, in the north of the Gaza Strip, to spend the night with the family of a local human rights activist. Israeli missile fire jarred the journey; we leapt out and filmed at a burning paint factory in Jabaliya; no one was injured. As we drove away, another missile hit, this time a steelworks behind us; again we went to film. "Fi shaheed, fi shaheed," people were shouting, "There is a martyr," but we saw no one. We were the only car on the road. Our driver told us, "The streets are full of fear, nobody wants to go out."
