thousands of people, young arabs (the vast majority), muslim families
with kids (of many ethnicities), leftist activists (a minority
scattered throughout) took part in the demo called by palestinians
living in the city. it was a long snake that moved chaotically. its
head was furious and turbulent like I hadn't felt in many years in
milano: bush, barak assassini! milanese communist leaders of various
shades seemed ill at ease at the forceful display of pain and rage. we
almost ran into the wall of riot cops blocking the access to corso
europa, where the israeli consulate is. we deviated behind the scala
brushing the ritzy montenapoleone. the vice mayor, a notorious fascist
who particularly hates muslims, autonomists and prostitutes,
complained for the demo for gaza because he said it'd spoil the
postXmas sale season that opens today...!

then in various angry bursts, shoving away a line of carabinieri,
scores of protesters made it into piazza duomo. it was eerie and
touching to see an ocean of palestinian flags (and some hamas flags
and pflp kefiahs as well) in downtown milano. many banners were in arabic
and so were the slogans. then a collective prayer was called: i now
know the direction of Mecca in milano. the city denies even a single
mosque to its muslim citizens and now it gets it open-air in front of
duomo!

Olmert, Barak and Livni committing war crimes that are among the worst occurred since 1945. Shame on Abu Mazen and Mubarak (mubarak o apri il confine o sarà la tua fine, was a banner that struck me) for being complicit in the murder of Gaza's children.
