Wrexham marks US Memorial Day with a Picnic for Peace

In solidarity with all those marking Memorial Day in the US with messages of peace, Wrexham Peace and Justice Forum and Wrexham Women for Peace held a Picnic for Peace in Wrexham's Peace Garden. Meanwhile, in Portland, Oregon, our friend Bridie from Wrexham has read out a message of unity at the Memorial Day service organised by Veterans for Peace Chapter 72 in their Peace Memorial Park. Solidarity across the pond!

University of Nottingham Graduate and Employee Facing Imminent Deportation Without Hearing

Hicham Yezza, a popular and active member of the academic community at the University of Nottingham, was recently arrested along with another student. After six days of detention, both were released without charge [1]. Hicham was re-arrested on immigration grounds. He now faces imminent deportation to Algeria wihtout due process [2]. There is widespread concern at the proposed, imminent deportation.

House repossessions rising sharply

Figures released by the UK Ministry of Justice (MoJ) on May 9 showed a marked increase in homeowners facing court action for repossession of their homes. The figure of 37,740 for the last three months was an increase of 17 percent on the last quarter and a 20 percent increase on the figures one year ago.
