Blairism not Labour an final insult of Blair Spin. (Demo at Labour Conferance?)

05-09-2006 17:42

The retirement blueprint aims to promote the "triumph of Blairism" and allow the PM to quit on a wave of euphoria after 10 years in office.

The secret strategy - drawn up by a small group of loyalists - is well under way.

Mr Blair's "farewell tour" includes plans to appear on Blue Peter, Songs of Praise and Chris Evans' radio show.

The five-page memo, drawn up by a close-knit group around the leader including party guru Philip Gould, suggests the PM is nearer to stepping down than he publicly admits.

It warns: "Time is not an unlimited commodity."

And more concerned with his place in history than the success of his policies, boasts: "His genuine legacy is not the delivery, important though that is, but the dominance of new Labour ideas...the triumph of Blairism.

Climate camp followup meeting // 7th September // Friends Meeting House, York

05-09-2006 16:42

This summer saw ecological action take centre stage in the country's media for a brief moment, as hundreds of campaigners converged in Selby to camp in the shadow of Drax power station, largest emitter of carbon dioxide in the UK. Groups and individuals from across the UK and beyond defied mass police presence and a legal injunction to make their presence felt outside (and, for some, inside) a target which for many represents the failings of the current system of energy production.

Khoodeelaar! Open Letter to local MP George Galloway about Crossrail

05-09-2006 11:09

The Khoodeelaar! campaign in defence of the East End against Crossrail hole Bill attacks was the first and the ONLY independent local campaign [or grouping] in the area to stand up for George Galloway in public when Galloway was being politically assaulted by the Blairing brigade over his absence away in January 2006. In the past 8 months, the Crsosrail hole Bill has been given undue backing by a committee of MPs which has been targeted as a poodles committee. Khoodeelaar! is now wanting to know what, if any, position George Galloway has on the subject of the role of the Select Committee so far and what he has said to oppose the Crossrail hole plot after the announcement on 25 July 2006 that the poodles committee was backing the CRASSRAIL hole plot on the East End

Australia: Thousands hear US military lawyer for David Hicks

05-09-2006 07:35

A definite shift has taken place
No doubt the Howard government will respond to the growing demands for Hicks’s immediate release in the only way it knows—with more slander and innuendo. But as the popular response to Mori’s public meetings and lectures makes clear, a definite shift has taken place in public sentiment that will only deepen in the coming period.

Poll: Israelis believed Nasrallah over Peretz

05-09-2006 05:56

What's striking about this article is that, rather than criticizing the Olmert Extremists for the many blatant LIES it was caught in, and for pursuing violent policies of illegal Aggression, they simply say that, before they start the next planned War, they have to get better at LYING to Israeli citizens.

Another way of explaining the disconnect is that this was not the Israeli People's war, it was a part of an agenda held by a relatively-small number of self-interested Extremists.

Please share this.

SOLDIERS ARE KILLING MACHINES

04-09-2006 22:29

In the three wars in Rwanda, Bosnia and Kosovo, over a million civilians were killed, much greater than military casualties. These people have not chosen to kill or be killed. Today, we heard about the deaths of soldiers, how they do not have enough money for the operation to kill or protect themselves from people defending their own lives from invasion, pillaging and aggression.
Yet on the corporate media, I do not hear the names of the millions of civilians who have died in the names of soliders fighting their own cultural fundamentalist state sponsored killing.

Wrexham Council votes for landfill

04-09-2006 21:50

Residents of Johnstown vow to continue their protests at Hafod Quarry following failure by Wrexham Council to revoke planning permission for landfill at the site, part of which is a Special Area of Conservation and home to great crested newts. The landfill site is also just 150 yards from local houses. Several other landfill sites in the area have caused nuisance, noise and pollution for years and local people have had enough.

SchNEWS - Rave New World? Techno Prisoners As Riot Cops Gatecrash Free Party

04-09-2006 21:31

Repetitive Beats
Uninvited guests in the shape of the riot squad crashed a free party in Chesterford, Essex over the bank holiday weekend. All was going well for the 1,000 or so twinkle-eyed party-goers until the Saturday, when hundreds of cops from five different forces surrounded a sound system and waded into the crowd with truncheons swinging. Some indignant punters defended themselves with sticks and, showing their commitment to preventing climate change, burnt out a cop car. Police claim the revellers acted “disgracefully”, going so far as to “attack police dogs”. Any one who’s been faced with a police dog will doubt the likelihood of anyone being daft enough to attack one, no matter how many drugs they’ve taken (not that the pills are any good any more!)

Save Frenchwood Rec - Save The Ribble!

04-09-2006 19:17

Local people will be rambling around Frenchwood Recreation Ground on Sunday 10th September. The area, which includes popular football pitches and borders the beautiful River Ribble is under threat from ideas in Preston City Council's 'Riverworks' proposals - which include large housing developments over green areas including the rec, as well as the environmentally disastrous idea of building a barrage across the river, and concreting over the banks for boat moorings.
