On July 7, some of the horrific consequences of the “war on terror” hit working-class Londoners. In a series of bomb blasts on the London tube and buses, more than 50 people were killed, and more than 700 injured, many losing limbs or suffering other debilitating injuries.UN World Leaders Summit
17-09-2005 15:28
The UN has failed in its attempt to define “terrorism” (in a universal sense) at the recent ‘world leaders’ summit – this attempt was doomed from the start. Terrorism remains an extremely valuable and useful term for propagandists due to its non-specificity. Right-wing governments and others utilise this term in order to impose draconian laws and constrictive social policies on domestic populations. In the unlikely event that a universal definition had been agreed upon the outcome would have been a number of ‘world leaders’ in the dock at the Hague ICC for crimes against humanity. The Knowledge Lab on Globalisation from Above and Below, located at Lancaster University in North West England and funded by the Institute for Advanced Studies, brings together activists and academics to discuss aspects of the capitalist economy driving globalisation from above - such as enclosures, precarious labour, structural violence, colonialism, and their justifying cultural imagery – and to make visible alternative architectures emerging through processes of globalisation from below, i.e. through grassroots movements cooperating to create a world based on human rights and mutual aid. The Knowledge Laboratory is an anticapitalist initiative.anti-military protesters rampage up tower
