MORALE HITS ''ROCK BOTTOM''

07-07-2003 07:18

US troops facing extended deployments amid the danger, heat, and uncertainty of an Iraq occupation are suffering from low morale that has in some cases hit "rock bottom."

Even as President Bush speaks of a "massive and long-term" undertaking in rebuilding Iraq, that effort, as well as the high tempo of US military operations around the globe, is taking its toll on individual troops.

Some frustrated troops stationed in Iraq are writing letters to representatives in Congress to request their units be repatriated. "Most soldiers would empty their bank accounts just for a plane ticket home," said one recent Congressional letter written by an Army soldier now based in Iraq. The soldier requested anonymity.

07-07-2003 05:02

The evenings in Yanoun had been quiet and peaceful for many hundreds of years. But today, it is now disturbed by the encroachment of forces just beyond the village. Bush's Backyard Surprise, Houston, Texas

07-07-2003 04:22

BBS!
A group by the name of "Bush's Backyard Surprise" passed out flyers at an Independence Day Celebration in Houston. The flyers provided information about the Patriot Acts. The Bush Administration ran the first of the Patriot Acts through Congress soon after September 11, 2001. The Patriot Acts severely limit our civil rights and jeopardize the safety and privacy of immigrants. This is second of many anti-bush events.

TERRORIST ANIMAL BLASPEMES AMERICA, THE EAGLE IS DEAD

07-07-2003 01:30

A bald eagle was critically injured when the National Zoo in Washington was infiltrated by an unidentified and unofficial species of "predator" animal the day before the nation's birthday according to the Houston Chronicle News Services. The attacker has not been directly linked to Al Kada or any other terrorist group but is indicative of the growing tendancy by animals to use violence against US interests and by current events to resemble a Bizzaro comic strip.

Chief Rabbi: Britain is 'besieged'

06-07-2003 22:03

The Chief Rabbi has warned that Britain is being "besieged" by asylum seekers and has advocated regional refugee camps outside Britain in an attempt to deal with the problem.

In an interview with The Telegraph Dr Jonathan Sacks, the spiritual leader of 280,000 British Jews, said that new policies were needed.

Dr Sacks himself admitted that were it not for Britain's willingness to accept Jewish refugees in the past, "almost no Jew in Britain would be alive today".
