Occupy Nottingham to receive eviction notice
27-02-2012 10:55
Occupy Nottingham say they will receive an eviction notice from the City Council today, requiring them to leave within 7 days.
Reposted from their Facebook page:
"URGENT INFO:
Tomorrow, Mon 27th Feb, The Council will be serving us with a notice to leave within 7 days, after which they will serve notice of intention to seek posession through the courts.
A deal was provided from Richard Antcliff, which didn’t take into consideration our rights to stay on the Market Square, or take into account that we could shrink the camp, also a threat of force was also made, if we were not to move.
Now, from Monday morning, we are asking for a call out of help, legal observers, and anyone with a camera or filming equipment, to please come down on Monday and show solidarity with us and our ongoing occupation of Market Square.
We have collectively decided so far, not to move from the Market Square, and through civil disobedience and lawful rebellion we will stay, and prevent intimidation tactics being used on those involved with Occupy.
We will be working on documents and information we will take to the courts all this week, and are building a great case, so if you would like to help with that, or have any contacts that can help, please get in touch asap!
We would like to thank everyone that has been involved to date, and would like to say that we will continue in our peaceful process for as long as possible!
Much peace & love."
Swindon Anarchists Demo in Solidarity With Striking Hospital Workers

On Feb 24th, Swindon Anarchists held a demo in solidarity.
The workers, mostly Goan, have held 6 days of strike action over the last 2 weeks with more planned in the coming weeks. Since the campaign started, workers have picketed the hospital, held mass rallies, blockaded Carillion HQ and various other demos and pickets. The strike, which started solidly is only growing stronger by the day.
The dispute centres around the culture of racist and demeaning treatment that the Goan workers are routinley subjected to - particularly from one manager, who has since been forced to resign. Another key part of the dispute is the fact that the workers have been told that they are allowed NO holiday time between the 10th of December and the 7th of January, removing any chance of them visiting relatives and friends in Goa over the christmas period.
Carillion have done their best to ignore the issues at the heart of this dispute and have mounted a campaign of strike-breaking against the cleaning staff, putting pressure on Carillion employees in companies such as Zurich and Nationwide to scab at the hospital on strike days.
Swindon Anarchists, in what we expect to be the first of many escalating actions, decided to show solidarity with the hospital workers by holding a demo against Carillion strikebreaking at the Swindon Zurich offices on Friday 24th of Feb
With support from comrades in Bath and Bristol, the demo attracted around 20 people, who leafleted cleaning staff, Zurich workers and passersby. Support for the demo, and the hospital workers, was overwhelming, with cars constantly honking in support and workers from Zurich expressing solidarity.
At the end of a sucessful demo, the cops turned up and started trying to take personal details, as well as insisting that if racism was an issue, then the dispute was not an industrial one, but needed to be reported to the Police! After one blushing cop apologised for his over-zealous colleague, they left empty handed.
If the demo showed one thing, it is that the people of Swindon are behind the striking workers and that, as their campaign escalates, they can count on the support and solidarity of large numbers of people in Swindon.
Swindon Anarchists will continue to stand in complete solidarity with the hospital workers, who are setting us all an important example of how to stand up to bullying bosses.
A list of buildings with Carillion contracts (especially those from which carillion are bullying workers into scabbing) will be released soon, so there are plenty of opportunities for solidarity actions in your town or city.

Electronic control by governments
27-02-2012 10:35
In recent years, scientists have learned how to locate by remote, focus on, and lock into a person’s brain to manipulate that person’s thoughts and thus his actions. Mind control assaults now loom as one of the main challenges of the 21st century. The targeted person often never discovers that he has become a mind control victim, and he ends up hurting others, taking his own life, or simply becoming another “Alzheimer” statistic. This paper discusses some of the elements of what I call Electronic Stalking and Mind Control (ESMC).Remembering Giuseppe Conlon

EDL flying the flag on the Lee riversolidarity protest at spanish embassy this morning
26-02-2012 16:55
with the recent severe 'austerity' cuts attacking ordinary people in spain, there have been increasing numbers of major protests there. the authorities have responded with repressive and violent policing, especially in valencia. in solidarity, around 50 protestors gathered at the spanish embassy in west london this morning.

in spain, just a few months after prime minsiter mariano rajoy's conservative government took power, around half of all 16-24 year olds are unemployed, along with nearly a quarter of all adults. even among those in employment, there has been a radical shift to short-term contracts, fewer rights, and overall precarity.
last weekend unions staged a third massive protest challenging the government cuts which have hit the public sector hard, especially in the areas of health and education. more than a million people took to the streets, with 500,000 in madrid, nearly as many in barcelona, and tens of thousands in other cities. during the week there have been further protests in at least 26 cities.
in valencia, young people protested against huge education cuts which have left some classrooms without even heating and electricity. the police reacted brutally, and photos and videos have emerged of police beating, pushing and dragging many young people, including girls as young as 14. the police have also been accused of stealing medical records to obstruct any proceedings against them, and the chief of police refused to give out the badge numbers of those involved, instead, during a press conference, actually referring to protestors as "the enemy".
so today's protest was called by spanish groups in london, and it attracted around 50 people, along with a solidarity visit from a few members of 'rhythms of resistance' samba band, who provided some rousing rhythms to accompany the spanish chants.
as the protestors gathered, they were watched by a rather camera-shy security man in front of the embassy, and after he'd exchanged words with some diplomatic police who turned up, they instructed the crowd that they couldn't protest directly in front of the embassy as this would be 'dangerous' because of the busy road (belgrave square on a sunday morning?). still the activists were happy to take up position on the traffic island opposite the embassy, and apart from occasional drives-past, the police kept their distance from the protest.
soon, someone was creating some banners using crayons and paper, and after an hour or so of noisy chants and samba, the group formed a large seated circle and held a general assembly on the pavement opposite the embassy.
activists are predicting a new spring awakening in spain, with a call for a build-up to an international day of action in may.
BP’s Olympic branding defaced throughout London
26-02-2012 14:55
Today hundreds of BP signs across London were targeted by activists protesting against the company’s role as ‘Sustainability Partner’ of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Around the capital, protesters hit petrol stations, advertising hoardings, and BP-sponsored cultural institutions[1], disfiguring hundreds of the famous BP ‘sunflower’ logo. Advertisements with the company’s Olympic strapline ‘fuelling the future’ were altered with the addition of three asterisks to make ‘f***ing the future’.
Activists said the ‘subvertising’ action, dubbed ‘Brand Piracy’ day, would escalate public debate[2] of BP’s sponsorship after headlines in recent months had focused on the Dow controversy.[3] The action was said to be “the first of many” with “more BP branding to be targeted in the run up to the Olympics”.
One of those taking part in the action, Bridget Peterson, said, “BP has just closed its solar business[4] and is now plunging into highly polluting tar sands[5], exploring the pristine Arctic[6] and restarting its deepwater drilling operations[7]. These extreme forms of energy extraction are incompatible with stopping climate change,[8] yet BP pursues them greedily while gloatingly advertising itself as ‘Sustainability Partner’.”
Another activist, who wished to remain anonymous, explained, “The Olympics gives BP the chance to look ethical and yet lead the public down the garden path. BP pays millions to manufacture a false reputation as a ‘sustainable’ company,[9] and deflect all attention from its actual operations. This sickening marketing spree amounts to a major cover-up – and so today we took our own action to cover it up.”
A website, http://www.f-ingthefuture.org, shows pictures of the action and outlines the problems with BP’s sponsorship of the Olympics.
