Cindy Sheehan's Interview with Hugo Chavez

31-03-2010 14:10

"The path is not to fly a plane into a building. It’s to create consciousness. And then the rest will come on its own. I’d like to take this moment to say hello to people of the United States. And us here in the South, we have a lot of faith. And the people in the North are going to wake up. Just like you have woken. Just like many have had an awakening. You can do great changes in the United States, and in a peaceful way, I hope. Because, what happens in the United States, those changes in the United States depend a lot...the future of the world depends on that a lot."

Three weeks before the US President Barack Obama’s visit to Ankara in April 2009, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) published a report which claimed that Turkey would be the optimum route for a possible Israeli attack on Iran.

People's Court – Pix-&-Vidz – Tue 30 Mar 10

31-03-2010 10:24

A1. DON'T JUDGE ME!!!
Dateline: Southwark Crown Court, London, UK, 09:40-10:30, Tue 30 Mar 10 – On a grey and wet morning, a mere handful of protesters gathered for what we took to be the first substantive court appearance of the MP's Expenses Scandal Scapegoats. But we learned that the Press Association had already announced that the crooked "New" Labour porkers Elliot Morley, David Chaytor, Jim Devine weren't even going to show up! While inside Court No. 2 the swindlers' silks pleaded Parliamentary Privilege as their excuse for justice evasion, outside on the court steps, our People's Court put their whole corrupt-to-the-core system on trial.

20 years ago today - the protest that brought down Thatcher and her Poll Tax!

31-03-2010 08:13

20 years ago today, on March 31st 1990, I was part of this huge crowd of hundreds of thousands people protesting against Maggie Thatchers Poll Tax. This became known as the ‘Battle of Trafalgar Square’, after police attacks on the protest provoked the largest act of civil unrest in London for a century. This great protest was the culmination of a country wide uprising, where in every town and city in the land, angry crowds of thousands of people marched on their Town Halls. Everywhere, people ripped up and burned their poll tax forms, and millions refused to pay this unjust and anti-working class tax, defying the law in one of the largest acts of mass civil disobedience in that century. All this lead to a crisis in the government, and Thatchers hated regime fell within months, taking her hated poll tax with it.

An hour prior to the text, a riot inside the detention centre had started: mattresses were burnt and two huge fires reached the infirmary. Some of the detainees were on the roof, while others broke three or four doors and reached the outer fence. The detention centre was soon full of riot police. Gunshots were heard around 1.20am.
