The Colnbrook Blockade in pictures

Early in the morning of 12th May 2009, a dozen anti-deportation campaigners from the Stop Deportation network and the International Federation of Iraqi Refugees blockaded the entrance to Colnbrook and Harmondsworth detention centres near Heathrow, to try and prevent a scheduled mass deportation of 45 Iraqi Kurdish refugees held at Colnbrook. Six activists locked themselves together in pairs, using glass and plastic arm tubes attached to heavy concrete barrels. The blockade lasted for over four hours, after which three coaches carrying the deportees left for an undisclosed airport. All six were arrested (two quite violently) for obstruction of the highway.

An ingenious 62 kilogram orangutan short circuited electrical wires and climbed a fence using a makeshift ladder in an aborted escape attempt from Adelaide Zoo today.

The elaborate plot by 27-year-old Karta got her to within metres of the public, and resulted in the closure of the zoo on one of its busiest days of the year.

Swine Flu and the Working Class

Two weeks ago came the first news about an epidemic, known as "swine flu", appeared in Mexico; according to statements by the Mexican Minister of Health, it was a "highly contagious mutant virus” which had moved from pigs to humans.
The alert triggered in the U.S. and Europe was accompanied by the information that it was already responsible for 20 "confirmed" deaths with forty still being “verified”. Day after day these news have made the headlines in newspapers and on television.

Swine Flu Death Certificates

It was reported on the BBC World Service last month that some doctors in Mexico were told not to write 'swine flu' or the equivalent on death certificates. Respiratory failure is what they've been recording. Think what that does to the actual swine flu mortality rate. Check out testimonies dated Saturday 25th April in particular!
