Realities after the dollar and before the Revolution

08-11-2008 22:55

The following article from Le Monde Diplo (not available on-line without subscription) is useful. These extracts jumped out at me:

"Only the combination of acknowledged economic power and an attractive, original political vision could overthrow the prevailing system or allow all its participants to be treated as equals" and "we are still a long way from a united front with the capacity to impose new international rules or dethrone the dollar and its institutional props, the IMF and the World Bank."

For "we are still a long way off" I would like to suggest we must read "revolution"; meaning sustained & decentralised simultaneous organisation on a national/transnational scale.

08-11-2008 16:05

Good news: 20 000 police trying to prevent countless anti-nuclear waste activists from stopping the castor transport train weren´t able to stop them: a couple of activists managed to stop the train not far away from the french border by chaining themselves to the rails.

The following is a portrait of a very famous and traditional event within the anti-Castor activist's agenda: the forest „game“ called the „Ralley Monte Göhrde“.

08-11-2008 09:25

Awami Mazahmat
Secular-minded workers, students, professionals, and concerned citizens joined a mass protest in the streets of Karachi, demanding an immediate end to the deadly raids by U.S. forces on Pakistani villages from bases in Afghanistan. The current U.S. policy of shifting combat focus from Iraq to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, apparently backed by both Republicans and Democrats, is galvanizing Pakistani public opinion decisively against the U.S. (Photos by Abira Ashfaq and Faris)

Obama advisers discuss preparations for war on Iran

07-11-2008 23:09
