"Israel and the Clash of Civilisations" - A Review of Jonathan Cook's book

04-02-2008 23:35

Israel and the Clash of Civilisations: Iraq, Iran and the Plan to Remake the ME
Following is a review of Jonathan Cook's book "Israel and the Clash of Civilisations" written by Stephen Lendman. The book was published by Pluto Press in Britain in January 2008. John Pilger has said that it is: “One of the most cogent understandings of the modern Middle East I have read. It is superb, because the author himself is a unique witness who blows away the media debris and presents both a j’accuse of those who would destroy the lives of whole societies in their pursuit of power and myth, and a warning to the rest of us to speak up and act.”  http://www.jkcook.net/Clash-of-Civilisations.htm

Urgent Demo Tomorrow (Tuesday) Morning: US Ambassador and UK Energy Minister

04-02-2008 22:21

A major Shell and BP sponsored event will see the UK Energy Minister and US Ambassador to Iraq converge with Oil Company and Mercenary representatives to discuss the carve up of Iraqi oil. These events provide the space and connections fto advance and consolidate a militarised free market capitalism, gunboat privatisation, needing more than 'just' war to realise new corporate facts on the ground, but also longterm occupation, through state and private corporate entities. British establishment - both corporate and governmental use these events to advance their own interests. Its really important to confront them with a different, street level, social movement politics and action - in solidarity with eachother; the Iraqi people resisting their fifth year of occupation, and our own struggle here against a casually killing freemarket fundamentalism, taken up by a class and establishment of individuals within corporations which are attacking our humanity in the name of profit and accumulation. Get up early and come to St James' Square!

British Airways And The 5 Tonne Businessmen

04-02-2008 21:29

I don’t make a habit of swearing, but this morning has been testing, to say the least. Formerly known as the “World’s Favourite Airline” until the world decided that it wasn’t too fond of airlines pushing out carbon dioxide into its upper atmosphere, British Airways have decided, in its eternal wisdom, to kit out a couple of Airbus A318s for its most luxury conscious business travellers.
