President Obama gets his groove back by attacking Africans

08-04-2011 11:58

Cynthia McKinney
“Even I could not imagine that it would get this bad” under Barack Obama, writes Cynthia McKinney, former Georgia congresswoman and Green Party presidential candidate. Abroad, the First Black President murders whole nations and peoples. At home, “Blacks are slipping back more and more into economic and cultural servitude and political irrelevancy,” with Black family wealth now pegged at $2,000 per household, compared to $94,600 for whites.

Stokes Croft Tesco opening April 15th

The Stokes Croft Tesco is due to open in one week, on Friday 15th April. Let's all get down there and give them a big Bristol-style welcome. One thing the UK Uncut protests have shown is it only takes a small handful of people to close a shop for health and safety. And that's just one idea
The Stokes Croft Tesco is due to open in one week, on Friday 15th April. Let's all get down there and give them a big Bristol-style welcome. One thing the UK Uncut protests have shown is it only takes a small handfull of people to close a shop for health and safety. And that's just one idea.

NO TESCO STATEMENT: Roll up roll up! Tesco is set to open at 138-142 Cheltenham road on FRIDAY 15 APRIL ... I'm sure you'll all chomping at the bit to show them your own personal welcome ... be sure to pop by and express how you feel about them ignoring all of our peaceful protests and painstaking navigation of the planning system. (But be lovely to the staff as it's really not their fault!).

We're not organising a protest because to be honest, we're pooped and excited to be leaving the fight behind and instead ploughing our energy into supporting positive alternatives to the supermarket model. But of course who knows what other groups in the community have planned ...

WHAT NOW? BOYCOTT TESCO.

It's not enough to complain about the supermarkets. They only exist because people shop in them. Make a commitment today to never shop in Tesco again - and to avoid supermarkets generally.

- SUPPORT LOCAL SHOPS
We have an abundance of local shops meeting all our food needs. On Picton St Gallifords on is open until 10.30pm, Radford Mill is open til 7pm and stocks local organic and fresh produce and Licata is open til 7pm and is a shining example of a healthy food culture! The Post Office on Stokes Croft is open until 10pm (I think!) and has a free cash point. You don't need Tesco! And I just checked for myself and the Metro stores really aren't any cheaper.

- KEEP IN THE LOOP
We will continue to send you messages about the positive alternatives we are working on ... we have something pretty exciting up our sleeve which we can soon announce ... if you were only in it for the angry protest and coz it No Tesco was where it was at, then best leave the group now!

MASSIVE THANKS for all your support and hard work ... other world's are not only possible but on a quiet day I can hear them breathing ...

LOVE
Claire and the No Tesco team

You legitimise child detention, we disrupt you.

08-04-2011 01:24

On 9 March, Barnardo's announced that it had agreed with the UKBA to provide staff and children's activities for the proposed new immigration prison for up to nine families at Pease Pottage, Crawley Forest.

A group of activists from groups including London No Borders, All African Women's Group, and SOAS detainee support swarmed in to the Museum of childhood during Barnardo's fundraising initiatives panel this afternoon to ask, 'How charitable is it to collude with the UKBA in locking up children?' and 'Why fund that of all things during the crisis?'. Despite some protestations from the crowd, many looked thoughtful and kept quiet during the proceedings. After some leafleting and general interruption the group moved to the front of the museum where banners were laid out and discussions with passers-by took place- all in all a successful stunt.

The campaign against Barnardo's agreeing to this contract must continue, to keep up to date with the campaign visit http://london.noborders.org.uk

Social Centre Plus Face Eviction this Tuesday

07-04-2011 23:07

Local residents who occupied the old Job Centre on Deptford High Street with the aim of “converting it into an anti-cuts space for the community” have responded to a legally binding eviction order for this Tuesday by announcing a series of events, culminating in a "mass meeting of anti-cuts activists" the night before. The collective – who go by the name of Social Centre Plus – also plan to bring the local community together against the government’s budget cuts, with spoken word concerts, children’s days, film showings and market day cafés.

Obama's Terror War on Libya

07-04-2011 21:11

The Guardian, 19 March 2011
Wars are solely for wealth and power, never humanitarian intervention to liberate oppressed people or promote democracy. They're notions, in fact, US leaders won't tolerate, notably Obama, doubling down on Bush, waging his Iraq and Afghan wars, fighting two others in Pakistan and Libya, another allied with Israel against Palestine, as well as proxy wars in Somalia, Central Africa, Yemen, Bahrain, Haiti, Honduras, Colombia, and at home against Muslims, Latino immigrants, and working Americans.
