The Protest on Wednesday in Hackney was interesting for a lot of reasons. Although it wasn't the largest turn out, the diversity of people there, from students to workers, anarcho's to Unionists, was good to see, all brought together to protest against the betrayel of the political process by all the elected representatives. after a traditional speech, chant, song, where the sound system was given access to the steps of town hall; denied to us humans, I went to the pub and was pleasantly supprised to see a road block develop outside. Good job to all the instigators!

To fully comprehend this agenda, one has to penetratingly understand what transpired in Kosovo in the 1990s, and what was the end result. The internationalization of the United Nations and NATO “peace keeping” forces in order to maintain peace and stability among a fractious people unable to govern themselves like civilized human beings. Kosovo set the legal, and UN sanctioned precedent for how the World Order of one-world government is to be principally governed. That very end result in the case of Middle East, throughout the 'arc of crisis' in the 'global zone of percolating violence', is evidently being sought through these manufactured “revolutions” which only seed chaos, civil war, Muslim on Muslim ethnic/religious/political violence, all leading to the demoralization and disintegration of the cohesive social fabric under the auspices of 4th, 5th, 6th, ... generation warfare methods designed to destroy nations and societies from within. On Saturday March 5th, Notts SOS organised a protest in the Market Square. The demonstration was held 2 days before Nottingham City Council meets to set its budget for next, year, slashing millions of pounds of spending.
Organisers claimed protesters numbered around 150. While not tiny, the demonstration was a fraction of the size of recent demonstrations against cuts at the city council and the privatisation of the Royal Mail.
The inclement weather can't have helped attendance. While not heavy, the rain didn't let-up throughout.
One organisation whose banners had been prominent on the post and county council demonstrations, but who were notable by their absence was the Labour Party. While happy to criticise the Tory-run county council for cutting services, they are curiously quiet about the Labour-run city council's decision to do the same.
The demonstration was intriguingly juxtaposed alongside the Nottingham Wheel and a Help For Heroes event involving people in 1940's costume and a range of contemporary vehicles.
The rally lasted for a couple of hours and was addressed by campaigners, trade unionists, students, homeless people and even a councillor (one from the Green Party). Speakers discussed their anger about the cuts, the impact on ordinary people and the possibility of challenging the government's austerity drive.
After the demonstration, some campaigners went on to visit Vodafone, Boots and Natwest, continuing a long-running local UK Uncut campaign.
Protesters will return to the square on Monday 7th March to protest outside the council's budget meeting. There will be a demonstration from 1pm with a second wave, for people leaving work, from 5-7pm.
Broken Cross and Mainshill open-casts locked shut

In the early hours of this morning two open cast coal mines had their gates d-locked shut. Mainshill and Broken Cross are two of three open cast coal sites in the Douglas Valley, with Scottish Coal applying to South Lanarkshire Council for permission to dig three new ones.
