"...I ask everyone who cares about animal protection and human rights to take action now to prevent this crime. This kind of police arbitrariness against NPOs is something we might recognize in dictatorships, but not in a democracy. Please stand up strong; stand against this outrageous injustice. My life depends on it."

London, 9 June 2008

Zimbabwe: The true masters of the MDC

09-06-2008 00:45

THE actions confirmed it all. Soon after the BBC World Debate on "Political Transitions: Africa’s Achilles", that was conducted at the 18th World Economic Forum on Africa here last Friday, the representatives from the MDC showed who their true masters were.

The leader of the other MDC faction, Professor Arthur Mutambara, who was not part of the panellists to the debate, rushed to the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ms Jendayi Frazer, the way a little school boy would rush to his father to report some bullies at school.

Reclaim Hulme Park - every Friday - Manchester

09-06-2008 00:09

Local residents reclaimed Hulme Park in Manchester on Friday for an hour by closing down the road that runs through it. Leaflets had been distributed and posters stuck around inviting people to reclaim the park - “one love, one park!!” People played games, ate and drank, and generally sat around in the street chatting to old friends and new. The police turned up in fair numbers on time, but sensibly - shock horror - just left enough of them and PCSOs to help direct traffic away, and left us to it.

Iran demands Security Council action on Israel threat

08-06-2008 19:23

"Mofaz's threat against Iran was the most explicit from a member of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's government, which has preferred to hint at a possible use of force.

Khazaee's letter said the Security Council's history of failing to act against Israel "has emboldened it to continue and even increase its unlawful behaviors and policies."
