The sun was shining today in Crawley, West Sussex, when over 100 people took part in a demonstration trough the town centre. The protest was called by the NoBorders network to show opposition to the planned building of a new migrants detention centre near Gatwick airport. The new prison for refugees and asylum seekers aims to 'accommodate' 400 detainees when it gets built. Here there are some photos of de demo:

Folk from around the east midlands gathered in Nottingham for a week of workshops, discussion and action around the issue of climate change. The event was organised under the banner of 'Spring Into Action', and besides a lot of talking, the week ended with some succesful direct action. This is what some of the participants had to say... Non GM Potatoes planted at Hedon test site

Protesters are planting non-GM potatoes in the field near Hull where BASF intend to trial their GM potato variety. About 100 protesters are spread across the large (several acre) field, with two mounted police and 2 foot police standing by watching - not even filming, for once.

Update: 2 cops on off road motorcycles have entered the field.
