Free Education Demonstration: Educate, Agitate, Organise!

26-02-2009 14:57

Around 600 students gathered at SOAS University to demand free education and a living grant for all. Although numbers were slightly lower than had been initially expected, it was very encouraging to see students turn out in such numbers in an action that was organised completely independently of the National Union of Students – the first time since the late 1990s. It may also underline the fluidity of the current period we are entering into against the backdrop of the greatest crisis of capitalism since the 1930s.

BBC1 ITV Channel 4 Camden "Supper Virus" Lab - work has started

26-02-2009 14:50

Most people are aware of the plans to build a "super virus" lab in Camden, alongside St Pancras International behind the British Library. The lab is likely to be level 3 facility meaning that it could contain anthrax and bird flu. I have just been told today by Helia Evens the secretary for Somers Town tenants association that work has indeed started to "explore risk assessment". A news item was also shown very late on TV two days ago...so late that most people would have missed it.

¡Dibujadme un cordero!. Carta de Principito a lasVisitadoras de Vargas Llosa

26-02-2009 11:44

SHAC London in the 'SOCPA' zone

25-02-2009 23:24

Monday, 23th February

Only three of us for another mini demo inside the 'SOCPA-zone' where we protested against Barclays (biggest HLS shareholder), but we still managed to do a decent little demo while leafletting about this Friday's march. We managed about 40 minutes of a demonstration before being told to clear off by a sergeant. It's a free society to demonstrate as long as you get permission and give 6 days notice! What a joke! Anyway, SHAC doesn't care about SOCPA and we'll be returning some time soon.

Celebrate BP's choice of Fossil Fools Day to celebrate its centenary!

23-02-2009 21:26

For reasons unfathomable yet deeply pleasing, BP* has chosen Fossil Fools
Day - April 1st 2009 - to celebrate its centenary.

This will take place at the British Museum, where the not-so-great and the
far-from-good will quaff cocktails, snaffle canapes and watch a
celebratory film.

And we will be there too, between 6-7pm, to say ‘Your party’s over!'
