Sabra and Shatila: Let us not Forget

19-09-2011 15:34

SHATILA REFUGEE CAMP, Beirut, Sept 18, 2011 – Plaster and decay have healed the bullet scars on the concrete walls but not the scars in the collective memory of those who continue to live here - 29 years after an Israeli-armed and commandeered Christian militia shot, knifed and beat to death thousands of unarmed Palestinian refugees during a three day killing spree for which no one has yet been brought to justice.

Communique from the Buenos Aires Support Network for Freddy, Marcelo, and Juan

19-09-2011 15:03

We never forget our imprisoned comrades. We don’t mystify our respect for them but neither are we indifferent to their everyday experience. Solidarity is not, as has been demonstrated on several occasions, just a beautiful word or a slogan, but a practice inseparable from our struggle. This can be expressed in many diverse ways, and there are moments when an idea takes shape with forcefulness and continuity. Given the delicate situation (in court and in prison) that faces our comrades Juan Aliste Vega, Marcelo Villarroel Sepúlveda, and Freddy Fuentevilla Saa, who are currently held captive in prisons of the Chilean state, several individuals from Buenos Aires have decided to form a new support network in order to provide updates and disseminate information about their situation, as well as hopefully assisting in their return to the streets.

18-09-2011 23:04

The meaning of 'antisystemic movements', the cange in the systemic parameters in the era of neoliberal modernity, class structure changes and their political implications, ideological crisis and the rise of postmodernism and irrationalism, 'old' antisystemic movements (the collapse of socialist statism and the bankruptcy of anarchism as an antisystemic movement), 'new' antisystemic movements (the end of Greens as an antisystemic movement, the death of feminism as an antisystemic movement), the anti-globalisation movement and the need for a new type of antisystemic movement.

Commonwealth Heads Meeting in Sri Lanka plan denounced

18-09-2011 12:14

Talk of awarding the next Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting to Sri Lanka, led by the despotic Rajapaksa governement accused of systematic war crimes against scores of civilians at the end of the country's 26-year old civil war in 2009, has been widely denounced.

Meanwhile, why so little BBC coverage on Sri Lanka since the end of the conflict bearing in mind the grotesque barbarity that has occurred in the country, as Channel 4 have so successfully exposed?

Public Sector Strike Predictions

14-09-2011 14:29

Expect to see old pictures like this dredged up over the next couple of months
General secretaries have used the Trades Union Congress conference in London to announce that they will be balloting their membership for strike action against the government's raid on pensions. So far, only 30% of the public sector workforce is covered by the ballots, but already the ruling class is howling in outrage. Using past experience and a little dialectical materialism - i.e. revolutionary common sense as a philosophical guide for the working class movement - what can be predicted over the next few months?
