Mother Palestine (by Latuff)

02-06-2009 05:39

Mother Palestine
I dedicate this artwork to a Palestinian elderly woman called Mrs. Zarefa, 95 years old, grandmother of the artist and good friend Mohammed Abo Afefa, whom I had the honour of meeting in Marka/Shnillar refugee camp, Jordan. She was expelled from Zakrea village to West Bank by Israeli forces in 1948, and again after 1967 to Jordan. She can't go back to homeland. Her right of return was denied by Israel.

01-06-2009 18:14

This from from vicky tauli-corpuz chair of UNPFII.
I am sending a statement calling on Annex 1 countries to repay their historical adaptation and emissions debt. Please read this statement
and see whether your organization, nation or peoples can sign on to
this. I am now at the Climate Change negotiations taking place in Bonn
from June 1-12 and the civil society organizations along with
indigenous peoples will be speaking about this. We hope to get wide
support for this concept and proposal so that we can influence the
governments negotiating here in Bonn. This is a proposal coming from
Bolivia and other developing country governments and many civil
society organizations are in support of this.

UN concealed carnage to keep Sri Lanka goodwill

30-05-2009 00:42

Despite massive international pressure, on Wed 27th May, the United Nations Human Rights Council refused calls to investigate allegations of war crimes by both sides. Instead it supported Sri Lanka in handling the humanitarian crisis under it's own initiative. The session had been called because of alarm over the high number of civilian casualties as well as the island's treatment of displaced Tamil civilians. The call by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay for aid agencies to be given free access to the camps so they can provide the Tamils with critical relief was also not agreed upon.

Workers' Fightback: Update 4

29-05-2009 18:42

Workers at the Swansea Linamar car parts plant have voted for an all-out indefinite strike, in support of their sacked union convenor Rob Williams. Williams was originally sacked one month ago, after an “irretrievable breakdown of trust” with management – i.e. he actually tried to stand up for his fellow workers. Indeed in April he visited all three Visteon occupations (like Linamar, Visteon are strongly linked to Ford).
