The Triangle Of Peace Foundation: Redefining Sinister, Shitting On Us All

10-11-2008 14:19

What can you say about an advert that fills an entire page of a broadsheet newspaper, containing a title (”The Triangle Of Peace Foundation”), a heavy duty strapline (”The birth of Philanthropical Capitalism, a new global responsibility.”), an address in New York (”Triangle of Peace, 420 Lexington Ave, Suite 518, New York, NY 10170 USA”) and a section of some kind of stylised monolith, all tastefully decked out in black and white?

The Obama '08 Phenomenon: What We have Learned?

10-11-2008 09:52

There is no doubt that history has been made, "for reasons that go beyond
the obvious `first Black' aspect of race." 2008 was the first year in modern
history that Blacks made no demands on the Democratic candidate - and
consequently, were promised nothing. This was the election cycle in which
the Black who began as a supposed "underdog" became the most heavily-funded
candidate of all time. There are many lessons to be learned - but few of
them palatable to folks still drunk on ObamaL'aid.

Trans gender demo at Stonewall awards.

09-11-2008 14:54

A loud and angry demo...
This year Stonewall (the once militant gay rights organisation) found itself to be the target of a very angry demo at its annual awards ceremony. Many in gay politics have viewed Stonewall as a traitor to its radical roots for some time. But the trans gender comunitiy in particular were infuriated when Guardian columnist Julie Bindle was nominated for journo of the year award.

It seems that Ms Bindle has been punting out the idea that trans gendered people can be 'cured' by therapy. So a number of concerned individuals and their supporters showed up at the awards to have their voice heard on the issue.

Realities after the dollar and before the Revolution

08-11-2008 22:55

The following article from Le Monde Diplo (not available on-line without subscription) is useful. These extracts jumped out at me:

"Only the combination of acknowledged economic power and an attractive, original political vision could overthrow the prevailing system or allow all its participants to be treated as equals" and "we are still a long way from a united front with the capacity to impose new international rules or dethrone the dollar and its institutional props, the IMF and the World Bank."

For "we are still a long way off" I would like to suggest we must read "revolution"; meaning sustained & decentralised simultaneous organisation on a national/transnational scale.

Italian Student rebellion: Info and Pics from Rome

08-11-2008 14:36

7 November 2008

This friday everybody skipped school again and took to the streets instead. Angela Davis and Barack Obama

07-11-2008 21:54

Last night I had the privilege of listening to Angela Davis, a woman I have admired since I first heard of her, and her activism. She was speaking to a philosophy conference so this was not the occasion to spit fire; nonetheless, though her delivery was restrained, the content of her words was as uncompromising as I expected.
