Worried about the credit crisis, rising rents, food prices and mortgage repayments? Ever wondered about DIY alternatives to this mayhem?

On the 29th of November Bristol Space Invaders will be holding a day long event of art, activities and workshops aimed at creating DIY solutions to the problems facing many of us as the economic crisis begins to bite.

29th of November @ The Red Factoy, St Pauls

Our group formed in April 2008 in response to an international call-out for actions in defence of squats and autonomous spaces and held an event on Colston Street, Bristol in a disused building in which we installed art, info, ran workshops and put on cabaret and live music for the evenings entertainment. This was tied in with a carnival parade through Stokes Croft and St Pauls against gentrification and closure of clubs in this area.

This time we want to share the practical know-how to reclaim the city and begin to live outside of the economic exchange - we have put on art and music before and done it well but we're less interested in providing another experience to come and consume - instead we aim to provide the tools to participate.

Our next event entitled "Opening the Doors to Autonomy" will include workshops on the legality and practicalities of squatting and resisting repossession/eviction, gentrification, urban foraging/skipping, radical recycling, a bike workshop, Tai-Chi & self defence, screen-printing and DIY wireless internet among other activities yet to be confirmed. Food, films and a kids space will also be provided. The event is free.

Where?: The Red Factory, Cave Street, St Pauls, Bristol (Just off Portland Square)
When?: Saturday the 29th of November 2008, 11am - 6pm

More financial crisis resistance in the South West!

11.11.2008 17:44

If you're up for two weekends of continuous resistance to the financial crisis in the south west, the weekend before the Space invaders event sees a mobilisation in Bath -

On Saturday the 22ns of Nov, Bath Activist Network are organising a demo/campaign against the coming recession and financial crisis.

Gas and electric bills are going through the roof. Unemployment is soaring, home repossessions are well up and more and more are falling below the poverty line. What is the governments response? They pile our money into the private sector to bail out their corporate buddies and OK massive increases in bills while watching us starve and freeze.
We didn't ask for this crisis, and it is not our fault, so why should we pay for it?
join us on the 22nd to march on Guildhall and kick start a campaign demanding -

*Decent council subsidies on energy bills
*Bailiffs and repossession men out of our communities
*Popular control of the banks our money bailed out
*Protection of jobs and benefits
*Affordable food and housing.

We are not just in this to wave placards and chant slogans, we are organising to win! We want to kickstart a campaign of protest and direct action which can make our demands a reality.
We can only win if we work together, so we are calling on all radicals, activists, anarchists, pensioner groups, tennants groups, claimants groups, single parents, disbled rights groups and everyone inbetween to join us.

Assemble at 12.30pm, on Saturday the 22nd of Nov @ the Abbey Courtyard, Bath.
