US inequality and New Zealand, a human rights perspective

05-12-2010 06:56

New Zealand has been given another chance to free itself from discriminatory collectivism while the US seems to be still battling with it. NZ was saved by the emerging truth of human rights omissions and one of life's miracles, the major Christchurch earthquake (no one killed).

6 Dec Trial for anarchist Giannis Dimitrakis in Greece

03-12-2010 12:40

The anarchist Giannis Dimitrakis was arrested heavily wounded after a robbery at a branch of the National Bank in the center of Athens, on January 16th, 2006. He defended the choice to expropriate a bank, without statements of remorse and with clarity about his motives and intentions. He gave meaning to his act as a moment in his critique and action against the system of wage slavery and exploitation, against the antisocial role of the banks and as a part of the polymorphic social struggle.

Squeezing us until we squeak

03-12-2010 11:40

As the economic crisis deepens, we are being constantly bombarded by a message from almost everyone with power - that we’ve been ‘living beyond our means’ and therefore must face massive cuts. The question is usually framed simply as what should be cut, rather than if there should be cuts.

Assault on the public sector

The government has immediately trained its sights on two groups of people - public sector workers, who provide supposedly wasteful services such as education and health, and anyone on benefits. The government have unleashed £11bn in benefit cuts, slashing tax credits and housing benefits while freezing child benefit. Meanwhile they will continue the previous government’s punitive workfare schemes, aimed at forcing the unemployed to work for benefit levels. In this assault they evoke wild tabloid tales of ‘benefit scroungers’ supposedly bleeding us dry - though recent figures show that only 1% of all benefit payments are fraudulent.

Lewisham: Town hall riot?

02-12-2010 12:48

Inside the Town Hall
Monday 29 November was a turning point for the anti-cuts movement on two counts: Firstly, local students - who have recently been an inspiration to us all fighting the cuts - joined a local anti-cuts demo which was not about tuition fees, EMA or education cuts.

Secondly, the militant nature of the demo meant that it was the first time the riot police were called to defend a town hall meeting that was about to vote to implement Tory cuts. It was our own Millbank Tower moment, and it almost worked.

Hundreds take to the streets of Cambridge on Tuesday (Part 1)

01-12-2010 17:03

The occupation continues... now in day six.
I have a story to tell.

It is a tale of two opposing, elemental forces, one of a ruling elite who thinks they know what is best for their subjects, and then there is a select few of their 'subjects', who have other ideas about what is best for them.

What I saw yesterday in Cambridge was the overwhelmingly creative, but also angry response to the decisions that the ruling elite are currently making.
