On 20 Nov 2006, The New Statesman led a cover story by Stephen Grey, the author of "Ghost Plane: the inside story of the CIA's secret rendition programme". Under the title "Missing Presumed Tortured", the article wondered whatever happened to the 7,000 or so prisoners captured in America's 'war on terror', when just 700 of them ended up in Guantanamo Bay.
