(audio) Mindwalk 14: Ten Billion Points of Light

27-09-2005 01:20

This episode features an anti-war speech by Journalist John Pilger recorded September 24 in London. Our favorite child sit-com star Dickie Richards hits the campaign trail as on the Republican ticket. A few semi-rude tunes from when I was a kid. Also a silly goofball poem by Jack Kerouac read by Juliana Hatfield.

Spectacular Terrorism and the Terror of the Spectacle

26-09-2005 01:53

“Such a perfect democracy constructs its own inconceivable foe, terrorism. Its wish is to be judged by its enemies rather than by its results. The story of terrorism is written by the state and it is therefore highly instructive. The spectators must certainly never know everything about terrorism, but they must always know enough to convince them that, compared with terrorism, everything else must be acceptable, or in any case more rational and democratic” (Guy Debord, Comments on the Society of the Spectacle).

Cambridge Peace Procession

25-09-2005 12:22

Peaced and Trolleyed...
Not quite as spectacular as what was happening in London and Washington, but nonetheless significant was a Peace Procession which took place yesterday afternoon in Cambridge, headed up by local Samba Band Arco Iris, and opened by Mayor John Hipkin (himself a member of Campeace), speaking about his recent visit to Hiroshima and the impact that the Atom bomb has had not only on those that were killed at the time, but also the generations that followed.
