Susan Karim’s trip to Baghdad March 2005

This is a 1,500 word with 11 photos of the trip made to Baghdad by Susan Karim in March 2005. Susan organised two sponsored walks for Iraqi orphans in 2003, the first from Dundee to Edinburgh and the second from Edinburgh to Glasgow. She went to Iraq in 2004 and again this year.

There was this much security at the US embassy ...
Photos from the "19.3" march and rally held on the 19th March 2005 in London, called by Stop the War Coalition, CND and MAB. Includes a montage of many of the mass-produced placards being carried, individual photos of some of the more creative ones, and the largest samba band I've ever seen. Estimates range from 50,000 people (police numbers) to 150,000 (organisers estimate). On the same day there were demonstrations across europe, including against protests against neoliberlaism - as well as anti-war protests around the world.

Quite a few people I spoke to on the large anti-war protest on Saturday March 19th 05, remarked on the style of policing deployed for the march.

While they were not criticising the actions of any police officers, they were keen to point out that there was an increased level of close policing along the route and the increased use of police vans to create road block barriers, both en route and at Trafalger square, where the march ended.
