Citizen weapons inspectors visit Manchester factory

At just before 8 o'clock on MOnday 5th October 2009, several citizen weapons inspectors from the Target Brimar campaign visited the Chadderton premises of military component manufacturer Brimar. They were seeking information on possible connections between Brimar's products and human rights abuses committed in Gaza and the West Bank, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

wo activists from Brighton are in Palestine and will spend the next month in the Jordan Valley, along with other Brighton-tubas solidarity Group members who will join them over the next few weeks. They will be reporting on the numberous resistance projects in the Jordan Valley, where local Bedouins and other Palestinians are coming together to challenge the occupation by constucting schools, health clinics, homes, playgrounds, roads and water pipes. No town in the West Bank suffers more restrictions than Qalqilya. The population is surrounded on all four sides by the wall, which separates them from their farmland and source of income. Nearby a large Israeli settlement plunders more essential resources. Worse still is the security which accompanies these structures, with dozens of checkpoints policing the town and nearby villages.

Once every two years, in the London Docklands, the world's biggest arms fair takes place. It's spelt DSEi, it's pronounced "Dicey", and this year it took place from 8th-11th September. Joining over 1,000 arms companies from around the world were a couple of outfits from Nottingham, catering to opposite ends of the small arms market.
