All Souls altar in front of Mexican Embassy
In this letter the 'Abejas' send their greetings and gratitude from Chiapas, Mexico for the solidarity events happening around the world this year on All Souls Day. They also share news about search operatives in the communities and report that military/police checkpoints are back in the highlands. Also disturbing is the on-going release of paramilitaries convicted for the 1997 massacre. On Monday 2 November, friends of the Chiapas-based group 'Las Abejas' constructed a Day of the Dead altar in front of the Mexican embassy in London. The altar commemorated the 45 Acteal Martyrs killed by paramlitaries 22 December 1997 and stood witness to the continuing injustice commited by the State.
