NATO Welcoming Committee | 04.11.2009 19:25 | Anti-militarism

ASSEMBLE AT 11AM SHARP
BE IN TOWN FOR 10.30AM
SIGN UP TO TEXT ALERTS FOR MEETING PLACE

With just over a week to go the NATO Welcoming Committee can release the details of the Friday the 13th demo.

For months the NATO Welcoming Committee has been calling on people to come to Edinburgh and take part in action against NATO and against militarism. We have now produced a map of the city centre of Edinburgh showing the location of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and some other institutions which are linked to the militarist system. Our primary target remains the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, the location of the NATO meeting. However, if we cannot reach it, it is important to remember that there are many targets around the city of Edinburgh just as deserving of attention. To find the target maps and other maps visit  http://natowc.noflag.org.uk/the-target

To make it as hard as possible for us to be contained and stopped from taking action the meeting place for the demonstration will not be announced until 10.30 am. People should be in the city centre in their affinity groups or with friends by this time. Once the location has been announced people should move to the meeting place and assemble at 11am sharp.

The meeting place will be announced on our website, via text message alert and on the info line answer phone. To sign up for text alerts visit  http://natowc.noflag.org.uk/txtalert and simply enter your phone number and hit submit. The info line number, which can be anonymously called from any pay phone, will be released closer to the time. Check the website ( http://natowc.noflag.org.uk/action)

As well as the mass demo we are also calling for people to come with their own ideas and plans for autonomous action against NATO or against other militarist targets. The NATO Parliamentary Assembly will continue until the 17th of November. Unannounced surprise actions will be very effective at disrupting the meeting. Information and support for autonomous actions will be available from our convergence space and from our website ( http://natowc.noflag.org.uk/resources).

In the next week we will be releasing more information regarding accommodation, convergence spaces, legal information and much more. Keep checking our website for updates, or feel free to email us.

See you on the streets!
