Peace Education in Wrexham Schools: This week, Palestine

28-06-2013 08:49

Ann Farr speaks about her work in Palestine

The Wrexham Peace Day Group has co-ordinated local peace days in September for the past few years. In 2012 the group worked with St Christopher's school to put together a day of peace education and activities that was attended by over 300 children aged 7-19 from ten different schools, followed by two days for peace in the middle of town. Another schools day is planned for this year on Friday 20 September with a day in town on Saturday 21.

Thanks to generous offers of time and skills, we've also been able to offer sessions on peace related themes in schools during the summer term this year. A couple of weeks ago, children in two primary and two high schools learned about nuclear weapons and the peace movement in sessions delivered by Julia Herzog from Faslane Peace Camp; over the next couple of weeks, Camilla Cancantata from Footloose will work with children from two schools to create music for peace, while Fiona Collins will tell peace stories from different cultures to children in three more schools. This week and next, however, the focus is on Palestine, with Ann Farr of EAPPI and Rod Cox of CAPE speaking to local children about their work.

Technology out of control? Drones, Killer Robots and the Arms Trade

21-06-2013 13:17

Remote controlled drones have already caused many civilian casualties in the ‘war on terror’, and people in the target zones and in Britain are campaigning against their use. But the military is moving towards letting battlefield ‘killer robots’ take their own decisions without human input. Should we allow computers to decide who lives and who dies, and who is legally responsible for their actions? This first meeting in our ‘Breaking the Frame’ series on the politics of technology will address some of the ethical and ‘existential’ issues raised by the march of technocracy. There will be plenty of time for informal discussion.

Obama has a Rape Room in Europe

18-06-2013 15:44

Kelley Barracks Moehringen
While the war criminals meeting in Northern Ireland are trying to get their failed currencies together to harass a terminally ill world a little longer, every human being is counting down for the total and immediate disarmament that will need to be mercilessly pushed upon the kleptocratic entity. As the greed and hypocrisy of the regime cabal is peaking in ever more unfertile absurdities, it remains of utmost importance to point at the most probable breaking point in the so-called "Atlantic relationship."

The Sick Man of Little Asia and the Nazi Occupiers

14-06-2013 15:14

The civil war in Turkey has several origins. On its Asian side there is so much ongoing conflict that it has become ever more attractive for the successor state of history's longest lasting empire to indulge itself in a technocratic hallucination of fictional sovereignty. Plans for the regulation of river flows into Iraq exploit the total dependency created by such measures to maintain illusions of power and influence that cannot be found for real in the international role of the country. On its European side there is an absurd stalemate and permanent haggling whether Germany is going to allow its ailing WWI ally into the equally rotten conglomerate of the EU or not. The term „privileged partnership“ has become a joke in itself, with ever more unreasonable demands made as an entry price, up to the grotesque scenery of a German military presence being established last winter for no other purpose than humiliating Erdogan. And now, the bizarre rhetoric emanating from the regime indicates that it has lost control of the escalation it ignited with its mindless attacks against protesters.

Bradley Manning Solidarity at Hambacher Forst

10-06-2013 16:13

Free Bradley Manning and all political prisoners!
In the context of the military trial concerning the publication of the war logs on Wikileaks, environmental activists protesting against the coal mine at Hambach Forest have installed a solidarity banner for Bradley Manning in front of the American military presence in the neighbourhood of our resistance camp. Since last week, an excavation of the remains of a military pilot who crashed in WWII is taking place in the area because RWE's annihilation of the landscape for the open cast mine seems to be perceived as a threat there as well.
